Detroit’s Temple Bar Is Closed Indefinitely Due to Structural Damage | Eater Detroit
"A beloved LGBTQ nightlife venue in Detroit’s Cass Corridor neighborhood is closed until further notice after part of the building's facade collapsed. Owner George Boukas says he received a call around 10 a.m. from someone telling him “that the roof of the bar caved in,” a call he initially thought was “a prank,” and was later contacted by the Detroit Police Department; Boukas reports that limestone on the top of the building caved in while the interior remained unscathed. The bar is waiting for the city's engineering supervisor to assess the damage and is working with DPD to clear and secure the sidewalk. Metro Times first reported the incident and shared video showing a pile of rubble from just above the bar’s sign on the sidewalk, with the area cordoned off by caution tape and traffic cones. Temple Bar, which had been gearing up for Movement Weekend, is closed indefinitely; Boukas says the safety of guests and staff is his priority and that he will post updates to the bar’s Instagram and Facebook." - Brenna Houck
