"As an homage to the Japanese kissaten (a traditional neighborhood café), I find Kisser—run by husband-wife duo Brian Lea and Leina Horii—to be a compact, comforting spot that has become Nashville’s only finalist for a 2024 James Beard Award. Part of Strategic Hospitality, it garnered early attention on Eater Nashville’s fall 2022 most-anticipated openings list and continues to draw diners from across the city with Japanese comfort-food offerings such as a chicken katsu sandwich on toasted milk bread, inari, and bowls of udon; this year it remains in the running for Best New Restaurant, with award winners to be announced at a gala in Chicago on June 10." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones
