"Rooted in centuries of tradition and dating to 1779, this market—tucked into the red-brick row houses of the historic Soulard neighborhood—features nearly 150 stalls selling farm-fresh produce, meats, fish, herbs, flowers, handmade hummus, superfood juices, roasted nuts, homemade pickles, and international specialties. The Italian Renaissance-style grand hall and enduring multigenerational vendors, including nearby Amish farmers, give the place a strong sense of history and continuity. Local favorites I’d seek out are gumbo or jambalaya from Soulard’s Cajun Corner and a cinnamon roll crêpe from Crepes and Treats." - Veronica Stoddart
