"Waking up in a plush bed and opening the shutters reveals turquoise Lake Como framed by mountains and a retro wooden boat, and guests can wander down in PJs or a bathrobe to what feels like an opulent ballroom for an extraordinary breakfast buffet. The grand dining room has high ceilings, ornate moldings and mirrored tables arranged around staff who help assemble plates rather than a typical self-serve setup, creating a theatrical, White Lotus–style atmosphere. The charcuterie and cheese selection is extensive and locally focused — think bresaola, multiple salamis, prosciutto and Parma ham alongside Parmigiano Reggiano, Sardinian pecorino, mozzarella di bufala, aged local cheeses, brie, feta and Emmental — with smoked salmon and swordfish presented on silver fish-shaped plates plus sardines and mackerel for extra umami. Egg offerings range from boiled eggs served for three, six or nine minutes in vintage brass lion-head egg cups that once belonged to chef Gualtiero Marchesi to made-to-order poached, fried or omelet options from a sunlit open kitchen; waffles and freshly prepared crêpes are also available, and the kitchen runs pasta-making classes. Bread and pastries are abundant — mini focaccia, croissants, mini brioches and more — while sweets include pistachio mini cannoli, berry tarts, muffins, doughnuts, pound loaves and jars of biscotti and regional Italian cookies. A lavish fruit display features apricots, peaches, pears and kiwis, with yogurt, muesli, goji berries, dried figs and coconut flakes and local chestnut and orange honeys (plus a giant honeycomb) as accompaniments. For chocolate lovers there are tables of milk, dark, coffee and hazelnut chocolates, house-made Nutella and a chocolate fountain. After loading up, guests are encouraged to take a seat on the terrace overlooking the lake, order an espresso or cappuccino and savor the view between helpings." - Sam Gutierrez
