"I watched Rize Up Bakery grow out of a pandemic-era effort by Azikiwee “Z” Anderson to create community by making bread for his neighbors; after posting a loaf on Instagram he began receiving orders, started shipping bread across the country, moved into a commercial kitchen, and made a name for himself selling at farmers markets, Bay Area grocery stores, sandwich shops, and restaurants. He emphasizes that sourdough must be fed daily and that "Sourdough is a colony of naturally occurring yeast and bacteria. We’re their caretakers and they take care of us back." Rize Up also gives back through a "Pay It Forward" program where purchased loaves are sent to local food kitchens and shelters." - Natalie Zimmerman
