"Announcing a multi-year push to make its packaging more sustainable, the chain plans over seven years to source bags, cups and wrappers from 100% renewable, recyclable, or certified materials (with a preference for Forest Stewardship Council certification). It has already committed to eliminating foam cups (targeted by the end of 2018) and pledges to provide recycling bins at every location by 2025. With only about half of its packaging currently recycled and roughly 10% of its 37,000 stores worldwide offering onsite recycling, the initiative is intended to answer customers’ top request for a serious recycling program and to appeal to younger consumers who favor responsible corporate behavior (reportedly 80% of whom have never tried a Big Mac). The announcement comes after recent customer-focused changes such as all-day breakfast." - Clint Rainey
