The Artist Hangout Where Julian Schnabel Cooked Sweetbreads

"The Locale was an artist hangout run by Mickey Ruskin, located in a basement on Waverly Place. It attracted a core crowd of artists despite its modest location. Julian Schnabel worked as a chef there, preparing special dinners on Thursdays. Ruskin eventually left to open the Lower Manhattan Ocean Club and later Chinese Chance." - Jeffrey Deitch
