"When the 55-degree forecast (for the sixth day in a row) has you down, you need comfort by the spoonful. And the best place to get that is 14 Peaks, a casual spot in the Mission that serves Nepali and Indian dishes so good, you’ll forget about your sad, sputtering space heater back home. The plump momos are well-spiced and juicy. Rich curries will warm you up in no time. And the garlic or cheese-stuffed naan is the fluffiest in town. It’s spacious inside, so you won’t have a problem walking in here. Basically, make any excuse to swing by and bury your weather-related sorrows in chicken korma. photo credit: Erin Ng photo credit: Erin Ng Food Rundown photo credit: Erin Ng Chicken Momo (Steamed) Ordering a round of chicken momos to share with the table is a requirement here. The steamed version doused in the tomato-heavy sauce is our top pick, but the fried ones are excellent, too. photo credit: Erin Ng Chicken Sekuwa This mound of smoky, tender chicken and thick slices of onions is a head-turner—it arrives sizzling and steaming, and should definitely be on your table. Biryani Solid, but it’s missing the usual punch of earthy, well-spiced flavor we look for in biryani. You can feel free to skip. photo credit: Erin Ng Palak Paneer Housemade cheese is the star in this dish—the creamy cubes are buried under a layer of spinach curry thick enough to soundproof a room. photo credit: Erin Ng Veg Chowmein If you want to round out the meal with some vegetables, order this stir-fried noodle dish. It comes with a tangle of perfectly chewy noodles and enough seasonal vegetables to make your PCP nod in approval." - Julia Chen
