"This high-end sushi spot in Gardena has just 10 seats and is only open Friday to Sunday, but here’s the good news: their $250 omakase is well worth it. The minimalist Sonagi comes from the chef behind Katsu Sando (and Kura Sushi, his family’s restaurant, which closed in 2019). The two-hour, 19-course omakase here mixes traditional Japanese techniques with Korean touches and includes dishes like monkfish liver tarts with caviar, cut rolls filled with silky soy-marinated crab, and delicate sea trout sashimi rolled in toasted sesame seeds. Snagging a reservation can take some patience, but for sushi die-hards, Sonagi is a South Bay destination. 10-seat Sonagi is only open Friday-Sunday, which means just 30 slots per week. Bookings require a deposit and are released 30 days in advance at midnight. Sign up on their waitlist for any cancellations." - garrett snyder, sylvio martins, cathy park
