Tadaima - Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We feel as conflicted about Tadaima as we do when we debate taking Muni or calling an Uber. On one hand, this small Japanese cafe in the Mission serves some of our favorite hojicha and matcha lattes. They’re rich and not too sweet. The fruit sandwiches, like the one stuffed with strawberries and cream, are also great with pillowy bread and fruit so fresh that it tastes like it must have had its own wellness routine. The savory sandwiches, though, could use some work. The chicken karaage is solid, but tough, the shrimp tempura is dry and difficult to eat, and the egg salad? Drowned in so much mayo that we couldn’t finish it. We’d stick with the drinks and fruit-based sandos at Tadaima. For similarly priced fried meat sandos, we suggest walking a few blocks to Stonemill Matcha instead. Food Rundown photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez Strawberries and Cream Sando If you’re going to get anything here, make it this. The cream is light and fluffy and paired with plump fresh strawberries. It’s a delicious Dolores Park snack that won’t weigh you down in between frisbee tosses and dog wrangling. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez Chicken Filet Karaage Sando The best of the savory sandwiches, and the only one we would consider getting again. It’s fine, but it is dry. With Stonemill Matcha nearby, we suggest going there if you’re looking for a juicy piece of fried chicken in between two slices of milk bread. photo credit: Ricky Rodriguez Onigiri Go for the miso soft snow crab and the yuzu salmon. You won’t be wowed, but they’re better than the other three flavors. Two per order." - Ricky Rodriguez
