Disco Birdies is like a Wendy’s, if Wendy’s served champagne - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"From the team behind neighbors For All Things Good and Bar Birba, Disco Birdies in Bed-Stuy is a little like a Wendy’s—if the Wendy's fry cook talked about the salt profile of their french fries, and the unctuousness of the Baconator. Here though, the burger is a smashburger, and everyone is drinking champagne, even that fry cook. photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte Pause Unmute A good spot for pregaming in the area, Disco Birdies is a restaurant, but it’s also sort of a bar: About half the space is standing-room only. What the place lacks in chairs, though, it makes up for with disco fries bathing in creme fraiche with a dollop of caviar, and a fried chicken sandwich that's slathered with ranch-like sauce, topped with tart homemade pickles, and excellent even when eaten standing up. Whether you add a side of fries to the toasted vanilla brioche soft serve or not, you will leave smelling like the inside of a deep fryer. And likely also having consumed even more champagne than you did on that one New Year’s Eve. You know the one. Food Rundown Fried Chicken Sandwich This is a perfect sandwich, with a thick fried thigh, a squishy bun, and both pickles and tangy ranch dressing to cut through all that richness. photo credit: Kate Previte Bistro Smash We politely disagree with the server who tried to convince us the burger is better than the fried chicken sandwich. But it's still a good double patty burger, and we appreciate the pickles on both patties. photo credit: Kate Previte Fries The fries here are almost too much like McDonald's, in that they're a little pale and lack an appropriate crisp. But they're still French fries, and we’ll still eat them. Bistro Salad Resist the voice in your head that says you need a salad with every meal. First of all, you don't, and also this one is somehow both slightly soggy and slightly underdressed. Chicken Bites If you're just here for a little snack and a lot of champagne, order some chicken bites. They're more chicken nugget than chicken tender, with a craggy crust. Disco Disco Fries How do you feel about spending $35 on french fries topped with caviar? If that statement makes you irrationally angry, avoid. If not, order the disco fries, plus lots more champagne to go with it. photo credit: Kate Previte Toasted Vanilla Brioche Soft Serve This house made soft serve is way more interesting than your classic vanilla, and you can of course pair it with french fries as Wendy and Ronald McDonald intended. photo credit: Kate Previte" - Willa Moore
