Jackson Fillmore - Review - Pacific Heights - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Pacific Heights dwellers have been enjoying fried mozzarella at Jackson Fillmore since before the Loma Prieta earthquake. The dining room at this old-school Italian spot is about the size of any nearby two-car garage, with a bar and tables filled with neighbors who’ve had standing Sunday reservations since the place opened in 1985. You’re not really here for the food, which, aside from the free bruschetta and fried slab of mozzarella, is forgettable. Just come when you want to scoop parmesan that’s served in a water glass, drink wine, and let a server coerce you into ordering the rum-heavy tiramisu. RESERVE A TABLE WITH RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Bruschetta Before your jacket is off, a single slice of bruschetta is bestowed upon your table like a garlicky gift. The starter is a highlight of the meal, and not just because it’s free—the diced tomato is well-dressed with a zippy kick of pepper. photo credit: Julia Chen Mozzarella Fritti Perhaps the best dish on the menu. It’s a block of fried cheese. There’s really no way to go wrong. photo credit: Julia Chen Ravioli Al Pesto Genovese The pesto is watered down to the point where it tastes like spa water with basil essence. Skip this. photo credit: Julia Chen Spaghetti Carbonara This is a good option in the pasta department. It’s appropriately silky with a sizable serving of guanciale. photo credit: Julia Chen Tiramisu A pleasant way to finish things out. They have a heavy hand with the rum, but it works. photo credit: Julia Chen" - Julia Chen
