"While Fontano’s requires a little mouth dexterity, the italian from Humboldt Haus is much more manageable. Its relatively flat bread has a nice crackly crust with a soft (but not chewy) interior, making it very pleasant—and easy—to eat. Most importantly, the bread-to-filling ratio is perfect and the distinct layers of the salami-pastrami-capicola trifecta amp up the peppery flavor profile. This is a great sandwich anytime the dry-cured meat mood hits, but it’s especially ideal for a picnic in Humboldt Park across the street. " - adrian kane, nick allen, john ringor, veda kilaru
