"You can have a Spanish breakfast of tostas and espresso shots all over Madrid, but if you end up longing for an eggs, bacon, and hash brown fuel-up, get it at La Desayunería. It takes the form of a typical all-American diner decked out in kitschy Route 66-inspired stars and stripes decor, and serving grilled cheese sandwiches, omelettes, and pancakes. The fan favorite is the Manchito platter, which overflows with cheesy eggs, pancakes, bacon, and fries that feel sized for a Spanish lunch. There are a few locations around Madrid, but the Ayala outpost tends to have fewer lines (though having a reservation is a solid plan). It also has a small upstairs play area for children, and a menu infantil with kid-approved pasta and tomato sauce." - lori zaino
