"Toff’s is a classic Cypriot-owned chippy that lays every table with white paper and a gleaming fish knife. It’s nice like that. Sit in at this Muswell Hill favourite and you’ll be treated to a big bowl of chips served family-style that are happily replenished as soon as you demolish them. These crisp, golden beauties are not the kind you stop at after one serving. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Unlike other chippies with dining rooms, Toff’s one isn’t separate. The takeaway counter is still there, with a polite queue of north London locals waiting to make their order, as big tables of retired locals with their glad rags on gather for a 6pm fish supper, or weary-looking parents bundle the kids in straight from school. The cod is nice, if a tad over, and the house fish cake is magnificent (all killer, no potato filler). Especially with a smear of tartare. RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Toff’s Fish Cakes This plump beauty is nothing like a floppy potato fish cake from your average chippy. That said, we have a soft spot for them too. This is packed with white fish. Add a squeeze of lemon, a turn of salt, and a smear of tartare if you’re so inclined. Haddock & Chips We prefer our batter to be a deeper brown and with a tad more crunch, but it’s a nice piece of fish that takes up 75% of your plate, as it should. The chips are crisp and fluffy, all shapes and sizes, and welcomely replenished when empty. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Jake Missing
