"Dinner at a handroll bar in Brickell might sound like an expensive idea that’ll leave you hungry. But Omakai Hand Roll Bar is filling and affordable. The top half of the menu has four combo options that are between $15 and $34. Like the other Omakai sushi restaurants in Wynwood and Coconut Grove, the oma deluxe is the best deal. For $24, you get five generously stuffed handrolls with an even layer of warm rice. If you want to be in control of your own handroll destiny, you can go a la carte and get an $18 uni to celebrate a big promotion (or mourn a tough breakup). They only have counter seating, so this isn’t a place to visit with 14 family members, but it’s also large enough to fit a middle school classroom, so you don’t have to worry about a long wait time. This makes it great for a last-minute date night, or a quick lunch between meetings. Food Rundown photo credit: Omakai Hand Roll Bar Ome Deluxe This is why you’re here. The oma deluxe costs $24 and comes with five handrolls—salmon, blue crab, albacore, bay scallops, and negi toro, in that order. By the time you finish the mayo-coated scallops, you’ll probably get full. But power through for the negi toro that’s a pinkies-up closer to the most affordable sushi meal in Brickell. photo credit: Omakai Hand Roll Bar Yellowtail The yellowtail handroll is made with heavy handfuls of scallion and can be found in the oma combo or a la carte. If you’re here with a friend who opts for the oma experience, steal a bite from them. Otherwise, it’s not special enough to pay $7 for it a la carte. video credit: Omakai Hand Roll Bar Albacore Our favorite handroll on the menu, served a la carte or in the oma deluxe combo. The smooth albacore is mixed with a sweet sauce and layered with shiso (Japanese mint). Some bites are more minty while others just savory, which makes it feel like you’re having four handrolls in this tuna-filled tube." - Mariana Trabanino
