"Altadena is an unincorporated area north of Pasadena with a cool, moody Pacific Northwest feel, perfect for a place like Good Neighbor Bar. Run by the Everson Royce folks, this casual mod hangout has great wine, $6 cans of Modelo, and comfy banquettes ideal for sitting with your spouse and discussing the Duplass brothers. But the reason to make a special trip to Good Neighbor is its stellar cocktail menu. The expansive list is filled with classics and deep cuts divided into sections like highballs, tiki punches, “booze forward” and “shaken with egg whites.” We’ve yet to try one we didn’t enjoy, but we’re still thinking about the silky Rolls Royce with gin, vermouth, and Benedictine in particular. There’s no food available, but everybody orders in." - brant cox, sylvio martins
