"Kim Chuy is a Chinatown staple that’s been serving excellent Chiu Chow noodle soups out of Far East Plaza since the 1980s. The standard bowl here involves a tangle of egg or rice noodles (they have six different kinds), delicate broth, leafy vegetables, plus toppings like plump wontons, pork offal, and braised duck. There are nearly 30 varieties, but we always return to the dry-style noodles with bouncy fish balls, ground pork, and shrimp (plus a sidecar of soup). Get an order of the fried leek cakes, too. The cute old-fashioned dining room is always busy but never packed—perfect for a casual lunch spent slurping noodles and watching people passing through the plaza.
