Japanese House

"Japanese House is a popular lunch spot right across from Salesforce Tower. It's a good reprieve from whatever office you're in, thanks to the quiet room, the fast service, and portions that will cover dinner for the night. Get there before noon and it'll be easy to stake claim to one of the first-come-first-serve tables. Even during prime lunch hours, though, the wait will be likely no more than 15 minutes (and takeout is speedy if you’re crunched for time before another meeting). Sushi takes up most of the menu, and it’s decent, but you should focus on the katsu, tempura, and curry. For a little bit of each, opt for the bento box special with your choice of two mini-entrees. Food Rundown photo credit: Patrick Wong Sushi Totally fine—but you’ll find similar quality rolls and nigiri across the street at Ebiko for a lower price. photo credit: Patrick Wong Chicken Katsu Served in a pile so heavy it might break airline carry-on rules. A majority of the strips of meat are moist, but there might be a handful of dry and grisly pieces. Still, we’d get this again. Tempura As with everything else, this helping of fried veggies is generous. You may need to search a bit for what’s hiding beneath the overly thick breading, but it's as crispy as you'll want it to be. photo credit: Patrick Wong Japanese Curry Rich, though slightly too salty. This rice plate comes with your choice of fried protein—we like the fish best. photo credit: Patrick Wong Agedashi Tofu A solid starter. The thin and crispy crust holds strong against a pool of broth that has just enough sweetness to balance out the salty kick of the tofu. photo credit: Patrick Wong Gyoza Skip this. The skin is a tad too thin and the bottoms are not crispy enough." - Patrick Wong
