"Lucky for those of us who wish the Florida Keys were closer, we have Golden Rule Seafood in South Miami. You’re coming here for pretty much any version of fried seafood, so stay away from dishes like the bland blackened seared tuna—which tastes like it was taken from an online recipe—and order the delightfully light and sweet conch fritters instead. Another great option is their po’ boy which piles tender fried shrimp, oysters, lettuce, and tomato onto a hoagie. If the weather is nice, sit outside. You can choose from two tiki situations, the grand or garden. We like the grand tiki because it could fit a twin-engine jet, has great air circulation, and is surrounded by mini waterfalls that sound like the background noise from a meditation app. Golden Rule also has a small indoor market. There, among the antique cash registers and nautical tchotchkes, you’ll find a long display case of local seafood, plus alligator meat in their freezer—if you’re into that kind of thing. A trip to the keys is always a fun getaway, but Golden Rule is about as close as Miami-Dade can get without crossing the Seven Mile Bridge. " - Virginia Otazo
