"Tiny sandwiches, boozy slushies, and a low-key outdoor patio are the ingredients we need to turn a lazy afternoon into a long night with friends and the creation of another core memory. And the Decatur location of Victory Sandwich Bar obliges. We still prefer the OG location of this sandwich and cocktail spot in Inman Park (it’s just off the Beltline, and the food is a couple notches ahead). But when we find ourselves East of the city with a few friends in tow, Victory still makes a good pit stop to relax with a light bite and drink, which has high potential to turn into several more. It has the cool-without-trying aesthetic of its sibling restaurant—a projector plays old movies you’ve never heard of and the bar has a thrown-together feel with a bullhorn and random trophies on display. Plus, after a few of their dangerously strong whiskey coke slushies, it make sense to order another mini (but tasty) banh mi with pork and sesame mayo to help us even out. Food Rundown photo credit: Juli Horsford Banh Appetite For Destruction This contains a pile of juicy pulled pork with the usual banh mi toppings of carrots, cucumbers, and jalapeños. This sandwich is one of our favorites and is always reliably tasty. photo credit: Juli Horsford Beast On Yeast This Beast tends to be a soggy mess of braised beef with so much horseradish it induces our gag reflex. They need some lessons from the Inman Park location because they balance the sandwich fillings much better. Little Havana The perfect crunch happens when you take a bite of this crispy bread—it would make a great ASMR video. The smoky pork, mustard, and pickles combine for a worthy (mini-) take on a cubano. Tea Bird The menu says this is “spicy!” but we’re calling BS because there’s zero heat here. And we know their thing is small sandwiches, but we should at least be able to see the fried chicken without a magnifying glass." - Juli Horsford
