Peckham Cellars Review - Peckham - London - The Infatuation

"Peckham Cellars is where we like to go to pick at bits of this and that, while sipping wine and getting some top-tier gossiping done. The menu lends itself to leisurely grazing sessions where you can pop an oozy scamorza croqueta between anecdotes, and split a chicken schnitzel as your friend discusses their recent split. Outside, under the heat lamps, is best for propping up with your wine cooler and bottles if you want to get loud, or head to the bar for casual-feeling dates. The service at this Peckham spot isn’t rushed, the lighting is low, and there’s a twinkling disco ball if you were still in any doubt that this place wants you to have a good time. The menu changes monthly but it’s always European-leaning, with a focus on Spanish dishes. The food is great and the mood is set for deep and meaningful conversations that will last longer than your bottle of Riesling. photo credit: Issy Croker photo credit: Issy Croker photo credit: Issy Croker Food Rundown video credit: Sinéad Cranna Spanish Tortilla On the strength of this tortilla alone, we’d sign a petition for tortillas to be on more menus. The eggs are buttery and the aioli is creamy. It’s decadent but simple, perfectly cooked, and an ideal size for sharing. video credit: Sinéad Cranna Chorizo & Scamorza Croquetas Croquetas are two a penny in wine bars these days, and some are penny-sized too. Not these baby boulders. These are worth ordering because of the not-too-thick, extra crunchy, golden brown coating, and the mild, melty scamorza cheese which plays nicely with the smoky chorizo. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Chicken Schnitzel Another simple-sounding dish, but one that forced us to raise a hand midway through our friend's 20-minute recap of their day to stop them and announce, “This is great”. Juicy chicken, yes. An ideal ratio of crispy crumb to meat, absolutely. But also tangy capers scattered about and a simple salad that is so strong with garlic we’re confident in saying that Peckham Cellars does not have a vampire problem." - Sinéad Cranna
