Asia Market Thai Lao Food - Review - The Heights - Houston - The Infatuation

"Walking in, you will first notice Asia Market does actually function as a market with fully stocked shelves of Thai and Asian grocery staples, but also as a casual sit down spot. Yeah, Asia Market Thai Lao Food might be wedged on a Heights strip center corner next to an auto supply place, but this combination grocery corner store and quick-serve restaurant dishes up some of the best Thai food in town. In between grabbing cans of coconut milk and bulk Thai tea, grab a seat, some laab, a pad thai, and a drunken noodle or two. Everything here comes out fast, hot, and spicy, no matter if you ask for “mild” spice or not. Nothing here lacks heat, or the pervasive and addictive sour tang prevalent in all great Thai-Lao food. The menu might seem simple, but whether you get crispy egg rolls or curry, every dish comes layered with a healthy dose of flavor, funk, and acidity that we can’t get enough of. And while the space doesn’t have much charm, apart from the thick spray of colorful fake flowers, it’s comfortable enough. So whether it’s a quick lunch, a low-key date night, or a mid-niche grocery run snack, don’t pass up Asia Market. photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva Pause Unmute Food Rundown Som Tum Tai Funky and crunchy with a solid amount of spice, this is a classic, refreshing, sinus-inducing green papaya salad photo credit: Liz Silva Pad Thai Pad Thai is that cool kid in school that everyone likes so much you sometimes try to ignore them. But we are on the Asia Market pad thai bandwagon ‘cause the dense, silky noodles rich with egg and a sweet sauce is everything a pad thai should be. photo credit: Liz Silva Beef Laab Laab is for lovers, lovers of an acidic and spicy meat salad that is. Plus, we love a meat-centric cold dish on hot Houston days (see: most of the year). photo credit: Liz Silva Pad Kra Pow Everything about the satisfying crunch of bell pepper laced with anise-like holy basil with quick stir-fried rich ground pork is work salivating over. Pile this on top of rice and dig in. photo credit: Liz Silva" - Chelsea Thomas
