Glenn’s Diner & Seafood House - Review - Ravenswood - Chicago - The Infatuation

"You might know Glenn’s as “that cereal place.” Yes, the walls are lined with shiny boxes you can order with really cold mil. And when you hear the word diner, you expect omelettes or spaghetti and meatballs, and Glenn’s has these things. But the real reason you’re at Glenn’s is for the seafood. The menu has a variety of things, with a long list of fresh fish, and things like mussels, clam chowder, jambalaya, and crab cakes. Everything is cooked nicely, and consistently good. Don’t expect creative masterpieces or fancy presentation. This is seafood prepared simply, in a (very) casual environment. Also worth noting is that this diner has a wine list, and it’s all $18 a bottle. Food Rundown New England Clam Chowder Bostonians would be proud to call this chowder their own. Spaghetti and Meatballs It seems random, but we’d come here for the meatballs alone. Seafood items will be the most enticing, which means you need to come at least twice: once for seafood, and once for spaghetti and meatballs. Cioppino Glenn’s version includes practically all of the fish in the ocean, including plenty of mussels and shrimp. If you love spicy food, this needs to be your choice. It’s also served in a bowl the size of a KitchenAid mixer, so sharing isn’t a bad idea. Sea Scallops Before Glenn’s, we would’ve said a “hearty scallop dish” was an oxymoron. They proved us wrong by plating five enormous scallops on a bed of bacon-mushroom cream sauce. The sauce is spoon worthy. King Crab Legs The Ferrari of sea-dwellers, served with corn on the cob rolled in butter and parmesan. They’re all you can eat on Tuesdays - we suggest you make a reservation. Cereal We’re not your mother, so don’t make us treat you like that. Order the cereal if you want. It’s tempting, we know. Pie It is a diner, get one of everything." - Caitlin Doermer
