"On a Sunday morning at Tremont Diner, you’ll probably encounter a line. It moves quickly—each group shuffling forward in about as long as it takes for a server to calculate a check with a calculator. Once you make it inside, you’ll find families who just came from church, toddlers crying over plates of chicken tenders, and cups of chicken soup on almost every table. Someone who has worked there forever will take your order, ask you if you live in Pelham Bay, and tell you at least one story about the history of this diner, founded in 1935. You can’t go wrong with any of the classics—the two eggs any style doesn’t skimp on bacon, and the tuna melt is served open-face, covered in a mountain of french fries. photo credit: Willa Moore" - Willa Moore
