"Jane & The Lion is a tiny strip mall bakery in The Heights. But behind that little glass door are the sights and smells of a carb-fueled fever dream. The inside looks like it was pulled straight from the pilot episode of The Great Victorian Baking Show (producers, shoot us an email). It’s packed full of antique furniture, vintage teacups, and cute framed paintings of croissants and lemon meringue pies in competition with the real ones in the massive display case. Unsurprisingly, the baked goods are the main draw—bacon fat chocolate chip cookies, crusty sourdough loaves, and lemon cream pies topped with enough hand-whipped blueberry cream to be nearly as tall as they are wide. But if you come hungry (or hungover), go straight for the Lion Board. It’s less charcuterie, more carnivore sampler platter, with crispy bacon, runny eggs, sausage, cheese, and a bowl of tiny ribs that feels primal in the best way. Everybody loves to think their neighborhood bakery is worth a cross-town trek. If you live in The Heights, you might actually be right. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary
