"In a sea of condo buildings, parking lots, and Walgreens with more locks than a high school hallway, Sofi Corner is a life raft. The tiny but comfortable French-Moroccan Wash West restaurant has yellow velvet booths and mosaic-tiled tables, and a charming patio out back. During all-day brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, people eat massive slices of quiche lorraine and sip mint tea out of an engraved silver teapot a genie would kill for, and it’s entirely possible you’ll see a belly dancer gyrating amongst the tables. If you like lamb, come for dinner Thursday through Saturday, when Sofi Corner serves a $75, three-course tasting menu that features the best lamb shank tagine in town. Don’t forget to BYOB, and you'll be on you're way to feeling like you're somewhere without a neighboring Jimmy John’s. photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi Food Rundown photo credit: Gab Bonghi Croque Madame A stack of buttery toast, warm ham, and rich mornay sauce topped with melted gruyere and a warm egg with a jiggly middle. It’s absolutely delicious. Moroccan Salad This is a great starter if you’re going for one of the meatier mains. The dish combines crisp cucumbers, tomatoes, and smoky grilled peppers with zaalouk, a garlicky eggplant salad that’s more like a dip. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Lamb Shank Tagine You’ll smell this platter before it gets to your table. The lamb is fall-off-the-bone tender and fragrant from garlic, ginger, cumin, and cloves. It all comes with saucy, fluffy couscous. Order it. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Date & Walnut Cake All of the pastries here are lovely, especially this moist, cinnamon-spiced cake dotted with chunks of walnuts and sweet dates. It’s perfect with mint tea." - Alison B. Kessler
