The Rabbit Hole - Review - Mission - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The smashburger is why you’re coming to The Rabbit Hole in Mission-Bernal. It has that standard thin, crisped-up patty covered in perfectly melted cheese, but the pickled vegetables it’s topped with make this funky burger unlike any other in the city. Unfortunately, the rest of the slightly Taiwanese menu is a bit inconsistent or disappointing. Still, the ample amount of seating keeps locals pouring in after work to grab a drink from their impressive cocktail menu—the savory ones with ingredients like duck fat-washed brandy and Shaoxing wine make a great pairing with the burger. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth photo credit: Carly Hackbarth photo credit: Carly Hackbarth photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Pause Unmute Food Rundown Smashed Burger The best thing on the menu, and one of the best burgers in SF. It's topped with pickled carrots, cucumbers, and peppers, as well as melted sharp cheddar, all on a shimmering brioche bun. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Fried Chicken Sandwich On some days, the spicy chicken sandwich is excellent. It’s got a craggily crust, and the nam pla honey glaze gets the sweat dripping down foreheads. But on the bad days, it’s like they turned the flavor, temperature, and texture notches all the way down. If you’re not willing to risk it, stick to the burger. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Fries Excellent. Light and airy, these thin fries are coated in nori and togarashi and served with a side of gochujang ketchup that’s not overpowering. photo credit: Joanie McCollom Crispy Scallion Pancake Skip. These scallion pancakes lack any satisfying crunch or flavor. They’re overcooked to the point of dryness, and instead of mixing minced scallions into the batter, they just toss a few loose ones on top. photo credit: Carly Hackbarth Sesame Peanut Noodles This bowl smells great, but the noodles are dry, crunchy, and undercooked. Despite being coated in peanut sauce, there’s not enough peanut or sesame flavor, and the whole dish ends up tasting like it’s been sitting out for awhile and got watered down." - Ricky Rodriguez
