La Marea's seafood tostadas pair well with fancy beer - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"There’s a tostada pop-up happening almost every night at Fair Isle Brewing, and it makes for worthwhile snacking alongside the brewery’s complex saisons. The hamachi version is the best one here—buttery slices on top of a smoky albacore salad that adds a welcome balance to the tang. And we also like the tasty peanut salsa macha in the mixed seafood version. Other dishes aren’t quite as successful, like the tuna tostada with fish that’s sliced a bit too thick, and aguachile with bland scallops. But for those looking to mix things up from the usual brewery burger night, this is a solid choice. Keep an eye on La Marea’s Instagram—the folks behind Tacos Extranjeros run this operation and mix things up often. Food Rundown Mixta There’s a lot going on in this tostada, including pieces of shrimp and octopus that do a nice job soaking up the salsa. It’s messy and a little difficult to share, but still worth ordering. photo credit: Gabe Guarente Tuna Not a bad bite by any means, but the fish is too chunky. The sauces sort of get lost in the mix. photo credit: Gabe Guarente Hamachi There’s more thick-cut fish here, but it gets along well with everything else, particularly pops of pleasant smoke from an albacore salad hiding underneath. photo credit: La Marea Aguachile De Callo The aguachile itself is minty and refreshing. However, the scallops don’t really pull their weight, even though their weight is literally tiny bivalves. photo credit: La Marea Chips, Salsa & Queso The queso is like edible velvet—we just wish there was a bit more heat. The move here is to order the sturdy chips with a side of La Marea’s fiery habanero salsa, which isn’t for the faint of heart, but is fantastic. photo credit: Gabe Guarente" - Gabe Guarente
