"What’s this now? A sit-down restaurant at The Grove worth planning an evening around? Not to be hyperbolic, but American Beauty feels a bit revolutionary. This sexy new-school steakhouse opened in Venice several years ago and now has an even larger location inside a mall with dancing fountains and a trolley. The retro space has multiple dining rooms for big groups, a leafy front patio, and a giant horseshoe-shaped bar where you can grab a dirty martini and fancy fries before heading over to AMC. But even if you aren’t going to the mall, American Beauty is a worthy dinner destination. Concentrate on the wood-grilled steaks, which includes a nicely charred hanger cut for $33, then sprinkle in some fun small plates like the jerk hamachi collar, charred broccolini caesar, and decadent hash browns stuffed with caramelized onions and sour cream." - Brant Cox
