Moody Tongue Sushi - Review - West Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Opened by a Chicago brewery, Moody Tongue Sushi has a semi-novel concept, and you can probably guess what it is. At this West Village restaurant, you’re supposed to pair your sushi with beer. You can have a watermelon saison with salmon sashimi or drink a bourbon barrel-aged stout alongside an order of wagyu nigiri. The beers are all pretty interesting, and the menu features a bunch of jazzed-up nigiri topped with things like caviar and black truffle. Unfortunately, the food is priced like a high-end omakase (with individual pieces ranging from $6-$30), and the quality of the product just doesn’t match up. Most of the specialty nigiri feels unnecessarily complicated, and you can easily spend $150 on an underwhelming meal for one. The little space, with its brick walls and parquet floors, is nice and cozy, but there are much better options for upscale sushi in the area." - Bryan Kim
