"Rip City Skates, Santa Monica. This family-owned skate shop opened in 1978, when skateboarding was trying to establish itself as a legitimate sport. As the owners say “Thank god it didn’t.” They carry a wide variety of decks, trucks, wheels and accessories and “try to keep to core products from manufacturers who consider quality over mass produced crap.” Their small space is plastered from wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with radness, and their collection of vintage boards is a great ride through authentic skating history. Drop in."
