Once founded in the early ’70s and later renamed Privilege in 1995, this vast superclub has a storied history that goes far beyond standard pulsing club nights. Its walls have seen Kylie Minogue, Madonna, David Bowie and Tina Turner dancing the night away, and it even served as the set for Queen’s ‘Barcelona’ music video with Montserrat Caballe. After being acquired in 1979 by footballer Jose Antonio Santamaria and becoming Ku, a renowned gay club, it eventually evolved into today’s Privilege. Since its shuttering in 2020, the Spanish government has injected €8 million (£6.7 million) into extensive restoration, transforming the 6,500-square-metre site – whose main room is about the size of an aircraft hangar – into a staggering 15,000-capacity venue that is set to reclaim its status as the world’s biggest nightclub, potentially reopening as early as 2025. - Liv Kelly
