Located on the Indonesian island of Flores, this active volcano is one of the country’s most restless sites, having erupted several times recently, including eruptions in May, several back in November 2024, mid-June, and again on Monday July 7. During the latest eruption, volcanic ash and materials were sent up to 18km into the air, with avalanches of gas clouds travelling down its slopes and depositing debris on the rooftops of nearby villages, though no casualties have been reported so far. Its powerful ash clouds have repeatedly disrupted air travel, causing serious flight delays and cancellations to and from Bali and affecting routes from cities such as Bangkok, Jakarta and Singapore. - Liv Kelly
