"A famed mountain-range sakura site in Nara prefecture where more than 30,000 cherry trees are planted on a north-facing slope, creating tiered viewing zones—Shimo Senbon (lower), Naka Senbon (middle), Kami Senbon (upper) and Oku Senbon (inner)—that lead past temples, parks and a picturesque village. Highlights include stopping at Yoshimizu-jinja Shrine, which is said to offer views of 1,000 trees at once, picnicking in Naka Senbon Park and hiking up to Hanayagura Observatory (about an hour) for panoramic vistas. The geography makes for varied activities along the ascent and one of Japan’s most classic, centuries-old hanami experiences; best visited in late March to early April." - SilverKris
