"A private, labour-of-love garden house and performance space built over nine years and completed in 2017, conceived and funded by Camille Huyen and her husband Truong Dinh Ngo. Set on the Perfume Riverbank, its imperial-style wooden pillars and tiled roofs are embellished with mosaic mythical creatures made from salvaged broken porcelain, bricks and old wood the couple collected from war-damaged and derelict sites. Inside, intimate events blend visual craft and traditional performance: Camille Huyen often appears in a crimson ao dai to sing interpretations of Hue’s royal chamber music accompanied by traditional instruments and a string quartet, while invitation-only concerts — such as the Autumn Concert for the Perfume River attended by local officials, artists and intellectuals — are used to demonstrate an alternative to mass tourism. The couple arranges private performances for high-end visitors via their website and actively pursues international artistic collaborations to keep Hue’s heritage alive and integrated into contemporary life." - Joshua Zukas
