"Not only is Salar de Uyuni the world’s largest salt flat, but when, as occasionally happens, it’s flooded with calm, shallow water, it creates the world’s largest mirror, 129 kilometers across. It’s so large satellites use it to recalibrate themselves — and for those closer to earth, the boutique Hotel Luna Salada offers a similar (though metaphorical) reset. Constructed almost entirely of salt blocks, Luna Salada features rooms outfitted in bright Andean colors — without televisions, preferring the unfamiliar to take center stage. Both tours of the Salar and of the vast night sky are offered, as well as an immersive steam room with panoramic view.
