"Located on Sandy Hook and managed by the National Park Service, this beach is considered a hidden gem and was ranked near the top of a BoatBooker list of best-kept coastal secrets. A portion known as Area "G" or South Gunnison has a long history as a clothing-optional spot—popular with nudists since the 1970s and 1980s for its relative privacy—and the Park Service acknowledges that usage, posting signs to inform visitors. Because the site is under NPS jurisdiction it is exempt from New Jersey's public nudity laws, though the Park cautions that nudity outside the traditional use area may be treated as disorderly conduct. Being the only legal nudist beach in the state, it draws crowds in summer despite its reputation for seclusion." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists.
