"A public beach on the southern end of Kiawah Island that was ranked No. 5 in Dr. Beach’s 2024 list and the highest-scoring beach in South Carolina. It caters to nature lovers—visitors can launch canoes and kayaks to paddle the tidal inlets or walk and bike along the fine-grained sand to Captain Sam’s Inlet to see thousands of birds. The water is clean though not crystal-clear, and the area feeds into a strong low-country seafood scene. On-site conveniences include seasonal lifeguards, rentals (beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards), restrooms, picnic areas with grills, outdoor showers, and a seasonal snack bar. Parking is limited (about 150 spots) and typically fills by midmorning in summer, so arriving early is recommended." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists.
