"Led by Greenlandic guide Lana Bendtsen, this South Greenland guiding outfitter—launched with her sister, Nikkie, in spring 2023—turned my aurora hunt into a cultural immersion: atop Qaqortoq, she shared Inuit lore that the northern lights are ancestors playing football with a walrus head and warned that whistling can make your head the ball, then softly whistled anyway. Soon others joined, and under her lead the sky seemed to quicken—swirls of lavender and lime giving way to frenetic pinks and whites beside chartreuse streaks—while I sipped hot cocoa and sat spellbound. I credit much of the night’s magic to Bendtsen’s whistling and the way she weaves tradition into the experience." - Stephanie Vermillion
