"Set "there where Rome was born," this 17th-century palazzo in the Velabro has been restored into a mixed-use art hub and hotel, nestled among the Palatine Hill, the Bocca della Verita, the Arch of Janus, and the Temple of Heracles Victor, with sprawling terraces that offer some of the most comprehensive, panoramic views of the city's ancient quarters. Conceived by the Fondazione Alda Fendi Esperimenti as "a place for living with art"—with residences for artists and enthusiasts, a restaurant, and exhibition and performance spaces—and spearheaded by Jean Nouvel, the six-story structure brings that ongoing experiment to life: at ground level an art gallery currently shows Michelangelo's rare architectural drawings, while the top floor and rooftop host the soigne, Paris-based Caviar Kaspia inviting people to "contemplate their caviars" over Franco-Russian-inspired fare; in between, the Rooms of Rome comprise 24 boutique, serviced apartments operated by Kike Sarasola of the Room Mate group that make up for what they lack in traditional hotel amenities by providing curated "experience experiments." - Noor Brara
