There's a good variety of Chinese pastry and buns here at this bakery. I really recommend their coconut cream bun which is soft,creamy,pretty good sized, and has enough balanced custard cream filling to satisfy any sweet tooths craving. They also do good pineapple buns here too. Customers come and go quickly but it's not super crazy crowded like other places. This is one of the few stopping places for a few tour groups. Friendly and helpful staff.

I usually get egg tarts at this location, along with a few breads (mostly bo lo bun - pineapple bread). I prefer the plain ones, however the red bean and taro paste ones are pretty good. Lightly sweet, not too sweet. The pineapple crust on the buns is not usually crispy or crunchy here, more on the soft, fluffy side. (Try GMK across the street for a more crunchy topping.) Sometimes there are day-old mystery bags (2 random breads) available. Not sure on exact price per bag, but the mystery is always fun for us to try. Cakes and slices look fun, but I'm shopping from a request list of very specific items of egg tarts and various breads. I recently saw milk tarts (whitish custard) with egg tarts (yellow custard) in the same tray. If you are eating the egg tarts at home, try to gently toast them to warm them and crisp up t the edges. The ladies behind the counter speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. They're fair and generally willing to remind others that there's a line.

I always love a good affordable Chinese bakery, no matter where I go! The egg tarts ($2 each) were insanely thick, creamy, and hot out of the oven. Not the mention the crust was perfectly flaky and crispy! I also liked their fluffy sponge cakes (so soft and fluffy!) and a couple other of their cheap bread options. Definitely a great place to get some affordable yet high quality Chinese baked goods for breakfast or a snack, probably one of the best bakeries in SF Chinatown!

I bought a durian egg yolk mooncake on Sunday, and it was $14.5. However, when I went home and took a detail look at it, I found the flavor is green tea. The price of these two kinds of moon cakes are so different, and I paid more by cash. A staff in the store delivered the mooncake to me directly when I told her the flavor that I wanted, and I believed her without any doubt. Unfortunately she didn’t give me the correct one and accepted my $14.5. Therefore, my suggestion to all the customers is BE CAREFUL, otherwise you will lose your money and can’t get what you want.

I never plan to come to AA Bakery but always end up here for some reason. I have a really hard time differentiating all the Chinatown bakeries some each other but I generally enjoy AA Bakery & their staff more than other places. I like their wide variety of mooncakes (still only very classic and traditional flavors) and they were the only place open late enough for me to do a last minute mooncake run for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Their egg tarts are yummy but they are extremely soft and don't travel well even in a plastic to-go container. They also aren't the cheapest egg tarts in SF Chinatown. I'm obsessed with their creamy fruit cakes & definitely come often to get them for celebrations. Another SF bakery classic on Stockton St!

Stumbled by this bakery and decided to stop by on a whim! Like most do in the area, I bought my pastries to-go. There is limited seating inside though if that's what you're looking for. Workers were pretty friendly as well! I got a pineapple bun, an egg tart, and 2 大老婆饼 (sweetheart cake). The pineapple bun was still warm when I got it, SUPER fluffy and the coating was crackly in the perfect way. No custard inside the bun, which I appreciate. The EGG TART. I have never been a super big fan of egg tarts, but this one was surprisingly good. The tart was super flaky, and the custard was super creamy. I wish I got more than one. Lastly, the sweetheart cake (I forgot to take a picture because they got devoured). Sweetheart cakes are usually my go-to for Chinese bakeries, and this one did not disappoint! There were small chunks of sweet winter melon and sesame seeds in the filing - which was actually a first for me - and they made it so much better. Definitely a must try if you haven't yet. The line was not super long, and I will definitely stop by again the next time I'm in SF.

Stopped by for a few items to go. I like to grab a few things to take home when I go to Chinatown. The line moved quickly. Got a curry beef bun, some egg tarts, a sponge cake, and a custard bun. The egg tart was creamy with a flaky crust. The sponge cake was light and fluffy. Haven't eaten the bao yet so maybe I'll update once I do, though I haven't been disappointed with them in the past.

So glad we stumbled upon this bakery. We stopped in on a mid day morning and there were a few locals sitting at tables and another tourist couple ahead of us. They were recommended a cheesecake so we got one as well. Along with a pineapple bun and another pastry. The pineapple has a nice sugary coating but had coconut which was unexpected. The cheesecake was a Japanese cheesecake so it was extremely light and fluffy. This seemed like a local spot and not the super well known own or frequented tourist locations but the pastries were delicious and worth checking out.

I've come back here multiple times already it's an old school Chinese bakery, very affordable. Some of the things I've bought include good egg tart (egg yolk/milk), coconut red bean pudding, the three different pineapple buns: plain, red bean, custard, coconut/peanut mochi. However the one thing I bought this time was their flaked char siu bao. The first bite I can already something was definitely off, the sauce tasted sour like on gone bad and has a weird yellow had a weird yellow texture in the filling definitely not normal. I will stick to the desserts since they are chilled in the fridge.

The BEST egg tarts!! At $2 a piece, they were such a great deal considering their size (bigger than other ones I've had) and quality. It had the perfect soft and flaky crust, which was paired with the most smooth and tender filling. Also got the curry beef bun, which was ok - flavor was on the milder side; and the pineapple custard bun, which was solid - liked that it wasn't overly sweet. Both were very affordable, under $2 each. This place also accepts card payments (with a $5 minimum and a small (I think ~4%) fee)!

They have plenty of pastries to choose from and cute cakes as well. The lady working was friendly. I ordered some baked pork buns, pineapple buns, egg tarts, and tried their milk tarts. Baked pork buns were okay. My son enjoyed the egg tarts. I liked the milk tarts. The pineapple buns were a win for both my son and I. Bakery a possible too 5 for me. But would come back for the milk tarts.

Asian bakery selling a variety of buns and pretty desserts in Chinatown -- they have an extra charge for credit card so make sure to bring cash if you want to avoid that! Got the bbq pork pineapple bun and although the sweet topping was really good, the filling was quite cold and fatty and almost a congealed texture? which wasn't my favorite. Would recommend their plain pineapple buns or maybe the ones that aren't filled with a savory filling that need to be heated up. Their prices are super cheap though -- 3 buns totaled around $4.60. Really nice workers and English friendly!

This place is a must when visiting San Fran. I do my research before going on a trip and this place was recommended by a few people. I know that you often hear more about the Golden Gate Bakery but there was a long line and I was not going to wait to try their egg tart. I'm glad I didn't sit in that line. We grabbed a few items to go and of course we tried their egg tart. It was warm and crispy. We also order some gelatin looking pastries, matcha cake, and sweet bread. Everything was great.

I've been to this bakery several times, and it's consistently a good spot for authentic Chinese bakery. Here are a few most recent key information to keep in mind: CREDIT CARD: They do accept credit cards, but only for purchases over $5, and there's a 3.99% surcharge on top of your total. I'm not really a Chinatown bakery connoisseur, but I do know a good bakery when I enter one. You can just tell because the baked goods don't look like they've been sitting there all day. I was feeling peckish after a dental appointment, and with no cavities, I felt entitled to something sweet. If you know...you know. And if you knew, you would know that the pastries here are just as good as the other extremely popular Chinatown bakery. There's nowhere to sit inside, so like many other bakeries in this area, you must buy then eat it elsewhere. I recommend the pineapple buns here! You can get it filled with pastry cream but Chinese people prefer to eat it with no filling. Note that some food tours stop by here, so if you're looking for a true hidden gem...this is not it. If a food tour happens to be here at the same time you are, it can get quite chaotic inside the small store with so many people looking to order.

I don't know what it's called but it was light in how you feel after eating but still sweet enough for my American/indian dessert preferences. The store is tiny and has a few tables to sit at. This is a no frills Asian bakery in Chinatown that sells everything mooncakes (at a whopping $8) to milk targs to even conchas! They do accept credit cards with a minimum $5 purchase. We bought two egg tarts and two Japanese cheese cakes... they were eaten as soon as we stepped outside! There some seating inside. It appears to be more of a neighborhood hangout for the elder locals. They have a Yelp check-in offer, so check-in before you pay!

Have come here for their buns before and this time came for an egg tart. I thought the egg tart was pretty good compared to other Chinese bakeries in Chinatown. The flavors were robust with the right amount of sweetness and savoriness. The crust was on the thicker side and felt more like a crumb which is interesting. if I ever want egg tarts or pineapple buns I come here in chinatown! I live in the nearby area and this is the spot that I found has consistently great pastries, cheap, and fast. The pineapple buns are soft and fluffy on the inside, and if you get one that's hot- it's extra delicious! Sometimes i take them to go & heat them up slightly in the air fryer. AA is my favorite Chinatown bakery for pastries. I always get an egg tart/dan tat ($2). The price is very reasonable for the size of the dan tat. The outer flaky crust is well balanced with the creamy egg custard on the inside; it's not too sweet and has a nice overall texture! Since Golden Gate Bakery closed, this has been my favorite place to find dan tats (more than Eastern Bakery and Mr. Bread Bakery). You can find discounted bread combinations on the right side from the day before. There's plenty of choices and it's a nice price for the amount of pastries. If you aren't too picky and want to try a variety of items, I would recommend buying a bag. Service is very quick. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get my pastries (even if the line is out the door)! The bakery is cash only, like most local stores in Chinatown.

Stopped by AA Bakery to try their egg custard tarts. The bakery is small with a bunch of customers crowding in and jockeying for position. Unfortunately there is no order to the line inside and I was at a disadvantage as I didn't speak Chinese. Some additional help arrived behind the counter and I managed to get some attention and secured an egg custard tart. Egg custard tart - $1.90 - these tarts were a lot bigger than ones I had earlier in the day at a dim sun restaurant. They were also half the price. The crust was flakey, buttery and crispy. It was perfect and filled with so much egg custard. It was very good but I felt the taste of the custard was a little too eggy. Overall this was a very good egg tart, just slightly too eggy. Pricing is reasonable. They do however have to work on their line management.

I picked this weekend specifically to go to San Francisco to visit my daughter. Why? It's Moon Festival. It's a major celebration for Asian cultures. They had a big celebration in Chinatown San Francisco. That's where my mom and grandmother lived. Loved the Chinatown. It's like no other Chinatown in the US. All you have to remember are three streets - Grant, Stockton and Broadway. That will get you to San Francisco Chinatown. The best mooncakes hands down is AA Bakery on Stockton Street. They make the best mooncakes. The filling is delicious the shell is perfect. My favorite is red bean no yolk. My wife's favorite is lotus double yolk. DJ's rating: 4.90/5.00 Would I come back? Definitely Yes.

I was in the mood for an egg custard tart while in Chinatown: Golden Gate Bakery had a long line and I couldn't seem to find Napoleon Super Bakery (which apparently has closed). I stumbled upon AA Bakery, and it turned out to be a great alternative! The egg custard tarts were only $2/piece (cash only), and still beautiful warm and flaky biting into it. A solid egg custard tart in Chinatown, and less of a line than Golden Gate Bakery!

After finding out my to go bakery, Napoleon, had shut down, I was so sad to asked the shop next door where else I can find some good egg tarts. They replied quickly that across the street, AA Bakery has the best they tried in Chinatown so that's where I went. Have to trust the locals! Ordered 8 egg tarts for the family to try and they were indeed very tasty! The crust was flaky and custard was not too sweet! For the price of $2 each, it was a steal! We came here because Golden Gate Bakery was closed and this was recommended as an alternate. So glad we came here! One block up to Stockton and turn left. It's on the corner and worth the hike up the hill! Ordered two of each: pineapple custard bun, bbq baked bao, egg custard, and Jin dui (think that's you spell it). Total was $14 and some change. What a great deal! And everything was so delicious! Sat in the back and just ate and relaxed! Tip: bring cash or pay a fee for credit card.

After meeting Chef Martin Yan at Hon's Wun Tun, he sent me to AA Bakery for dessert. It had a line and what seemed like regulars hanging out in back tables. The egg tarts are more eggy and less vanilla flavored than typical. I found myself liking the eggy flavor. I ate it so quickly, i forgot to take pic. Watch out for the nice old ladies cutting in line. They old and quick at ordering so it is all good!

AA is the classic OG Chinatown bakery and it's been at least 5 years since I've had their baked goods. Unfortunately, they have cut corners and it is not nearly as good as what I remember. Service was still friendly and definitely helpful if you speak Cantonese. They do also take credit cards. There are some tables in the back if you want to rest and eat -- their pastries make a flaky mess everywhere so why not leave the crumbs here -- oh you'll thank me!! Egg tarts $2 classic and the white ones made with just egg whites -- a surprise but no nearly as good. Without the yolk, the center is firmer and not as rich. I've eaten a lot of fancy tarts from all over and I can honestly say, this isn't worth $2. The crust is too soft, with too much flour. Next we had the curry beef turnover and chicken pot pie -- both $3.25 each -- these are classics that I loved but as you can see, they're now dry and with half the filling. Again, mostly flour and grease -- I'm not even sure they're using real butter. The chicken bun was the worst of everything, with mostly bread. A lot of people still come here to get their OG goods. They have a table in the back with pre packed goodies if you're a touchy type that likes to get up close and personal with your food. Somehow I spent $26 on mediocre baked classics...

Our go to bakery place in Chinatown for all good sweet things. Been coming to this place for decades. It's a local gem and a no frill place. Just look for the large red sign and a line on weekends. There's some seating area on the inside, but most people take out. Local and also touristy place that's really well known. It's cash only and they do charge for boxes and or bags so keep that in mind or bring your own. Have your orders ready or point to what you want because it could get hectic and the people gathering your stuff are straight forward and normally in a rush to get to the next people in line. Prices have gone up over the years, but the quality seems to stay consistently good. Language is sometimes barrier but they normally type your total into a calculator and just turn it around and show you. Some highlights to order are the char siu baked bun, pineapple coconut filled bun, peanut coconut mochi, and hot nai cha. Highly recommend if you're looking for a good authentic Asian bakery in Chinatown! Everything is made fresh and good quality. Noticed that over the years the fillings have gotten less & less but that's to be expected.

It's a charming place. Very canto bakery. I think unlimited milk tea for 3.50. As pineapple bun dry custard connoisseur, this it the wettest dry custard bun I've ever had. Though I think the bread is all wrong for the curry bun, the filling was pretty delicious. 1.75 seems a reasonable price for those buns, compared to over $2 at other places.

Dim Sum reigns supreme in china town. There are a plethora of options. Which is the best? Where do we go? Is the line at Good Mong Kok worth it? I've got my opinions. But one thing is for certain... AA Bakery should be on your mind when you think Dim Sum in San Francisco's China town. Located directly across the street from another fantastic and more popular dim sum spot (Good Mong Kok), AA Bakery is churning out legit options. They are serving a lot of the normal dim sum offerings but not a ton of dumpling or noodle options. It's more so just the bakery items. They also specialize in all sorts of cakes. As is common with a lot of dim sum in china town, the prices are very fair! What's the best dim sum/bakery in China Town? I won't tell you just yet, but AA Bakery is in the conversation with what they have to offer! (4.6 Stars)

The location still had a lot of bread even though it was around closing time. AA Bakery Cafe was pretty busy, all the seating was filled and there were a lot of take out customers. Line didn't take long and the lady who bagged our bread was fast and efficient! The look of the place was like standard Chinese bakery shop but a little cluttered so it was a bit crowded when lining up. We ordered 4 items. Green Onion Long Bread: The bread was tasty and had enough green onion. Flavor was on point but could have a but more salt. Rate: 9/10 Raisin Long Bread: Again bread flavor profile was yummy but it did lack in raisins. If it had more it could had a better rating but I'd still order it again. Rate: 7/10 Sesame Ball: This was the least favorite. It was like a typical sesame ball but nothing too specials. Probably not their best in my opinion. Rate: 6/10 Walnut Cookie: The cookie was pretty big and lot of flavor! Crumbly texture and chewy inside. It was a little sweet so I saved half for later. If you like walnuts, I'd strongly recommend! Rate: 9/10 All this came to $7.50! Pretty cheap and would definitely come back to try the long breads again and other snacks! Even though it's not "aesthetic" to the public eye, it still has a comfortable vibe and the main importance is the breads!

I will literally drive to San Francisco just to come to AA Bakery. This bakery makes the *best* Baked BBQ Pork Buns (Char Siu Bao). The meat filling is pretty abundant given the low price ($2 ish) and its flavor is on point. Not too saucy or sweet, just right. The baked topping is delicious and adds a sweet, crunchy texture to the otherwise soft and fluffy bun. I buy like 6 of these every time to last the week for the family. I've also tried their pineapple bun and sachima. I would recommend the pineapple bun (named for the decorative pattern on top, not for flavor btw) but not so much the sachima. The fresh sachima baked here wasn't that different from the packaged ones in the grocery stores. Make sure to bring cash and be prepared to find street parking or walk a few blocks to get here. The line can be somewhat long at times.

This place is busy but the staff still manages to get it done and super nice. I tried their pineapple bun that had an apple filling inside. The pineapple top was good and plentiful the coconut filling was overly sweet and a nice treat. Definitely had to try the milk tart.. because I've never seen anything like it. very thick crust, and the egg custard was on the sweeter side. $5 min for credit card so we paid with cash ($2). they sell plenty of other old-school chinese breads/pastries/biscuits!

I wasn't planning on going here, I had my eye on Good Mong Kak across the street but they didn't have egg tarts ready yet so I came here as a "backup" and wow, I'm glad I did! We tried both the egg tart and the milk tart and they were both delicious. The server grabbed warm ones for us from the kitchen, none of that sitting-on-the-shelf stuff for us. There was so much more I wanted to try but I had to be realistic. Next time? Nah, who am I kidding, I'll be back for another egg tart!

4.8 stars! The egg tarts here are just heavenly!! As good as I remembered them to be when I had them 5 years ago for $1.10 a piece! But even at $2 a piece now, they are still so worth it! The crust is so buttery and flaky and the custard is just so thick and creamy and fluffy! I regret not buying more!!

Chinese cakes are my favorite due to their lightness, use of fresh whip cream and the fact that they are not too sweet. After reading a bunch of reviews, I ordered a cake for my daughter's second birthday from AA Bakery. Important facts: 1. The cake (strawberry - don't let them push you towards the mixed fruit if you don't want that) was delicious and many people said it was the best birthday cake they had ever eaten. 2. I ordered in person the day before. (When I called on the phone a couple days earlier, they quoted almost $20 higher. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) 3. When I ordered, I requested aqua accents for the decoration. She told me they would need to be pink; I then rebought plates, napkins etc. that would match pink, and the cake ended up being orange. 4. That part of Stockton Street is extremely busy, so consider that for pickup. I would definitely recommend them based on the quality, but if you have a certain color you're going for, be careful .

Looking for a bakery in Chinatown we went into AA Bakery & Cafe. This bakery has closed off seating for Covid precautions but otherwise the ambiance is your typical bakery in Chinatown. They offer all kinds of Chinese cakes, cookies, rolls, sweet or savory pastries. The person at the counter was courteous, made recommendations and answered questions we had. Great customer service!

Yummy spot in Chinatown with a wide variety of baked goods and Asian desserts. They do take both cash and card, but with a surcharge and a credit card minimum purchase. Although there were plenty of customers, the workers were efficient and the lines moved quickly. I'd love to come back next time I'm in the area. The store itself is large and there is ample indoor seating to enjoy your treats. Food: -Egg tarts: 4.5/5, these were HUGE for Chinese egg tarts - about the size of a cookie which is big for these things. The texture was pleasant and not too sweet. The crust was flaky and delicious. Would 100% recommend to try these if you're here! -Pineapple Pork Bun: 3.5/5, my favorite Asian bakery dessert, this one was pretty solid. The meat inside was sweet, and the bun itself was soft and pillowy. -Sesame ball: 3.5/5, these are also big for their size, the red bean to sesame ratio was perfect.
