For my first time here, I tried the smoked turkey plate with cornbread (yummy!), onion rings and mac and cheese. The turkey had a great smoky taste and the Mac and cheese was a good combo a creamy and cheesy. I prefer super crispy onion rings so these weren't for me but still tasted good. My husband had the smoked chicken wrap, which was super delicious as well! The owner had great customer service and made sure we were happy with our meal. I will definitely be returning!

We had a great experience at Abbey’s with our large group! While the restaurant operates with counter service rather than table service, the setup is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating in various sizes to accommodate parties of all kinds. The staff was welcoming and helpful, offering great suggestions from the menu. Abbey’s serves classic barbecue platters along with tasty alternatives like burgers, a wrap, a bowl, and loaded fries. The portions were generous—many of us had leftovers to take home. Their tangy barbecue sauce was a hit and paired perfectly with everything we tried. Our group ordered a mix of items including burgers, the wrap, loaded fries, a bowl, and a brisket platter—everyone was happy with their meal. They also offer a selection of alcoholic beverages, bottled and canned drinks, and fountain sodas. Overall, we were very satisfied with our visit and definitely plan to return!

Google
The food tastes better than average (better than steakhouse, in n out, kind of joints). The portions are a bit small, but tasty. The place is in an old area so it feels meh, but not too bad. Furthermore I still would recommend it if you love brisket!

Google
So everyone knows how nostalgia makes for Foodie pursuits. Was I really thinking it was possible to get Mesquite smoked, slow cooked, succulent brisket, with ranchero beans AND Potato Salad, and decent BBq sauce for that real Texas Brisket Plate I have every Sunday I am in south Texas??? The restaurant is in a plaza which made me a little nervous as to whether it would live up to my imagination, BUT Well then!! I had to grab this Abbey’s Real Texas BBQ plate to go, and yes, I broke into it the minute my take out box hit the counter!! ~And even after bad traffic and sitting there with 25 minutes of the delicious brisket smell wafting in my car, it still tasted fresh and amazing! I am so glad I drove out to La Mesa for this treat. Someone had warned me that they felt the brisket was “too dry” but not my plate! It was perfectly moist, fork tender and not a bit greasy!! The Ranchero Beans were awesomely seasoned, so delicious ! I will admit that you would not really find a lot of Texas potato salad made from skin-on red potatoes, but no complaints here as I found the potato salad was delicious! Oh And I LOVED the corn bread! It had a pleasant sweetness to it, just the way I like it!!!~I arrived just before the lunch crowd, and was served very quickly. The line after my order was already 15 people deep! I did not have time for photos as I had to get back home quickly, but it is a very nicely appointed dining area, with plenty of tables to configure for whatever size crowd you bring! The brisket was perfection, in my opinion! Enjoy! **Picture shows only a bit of the brisket in my order. There was enough for two more servings for me! And then I returned for a dine in experience and it was absolutely consistent in every way: delicious, moist brisket, great ranchero beans and potato salad, tasty corn bread!! Plenty of seating, and a thoroughly enjoyable time!! Added Pictures are from dine in!

Google
I’ve eaten barbecue all over the country. From small-town pits in Texas to hidden gems in the Carolinas, I’ve tasted the best of it. So trust me when I say Abbey’s in San Diego is seriously legit. I ordered the #3 Sampler Platter with brisket and chicken. For sides, I went with mac and cheese, onion rings, and added cornbread because I have my priorities straight. The brisket was juicy with just the right amount of char. It had that smoky depth you look for without being dry or overdone. The burnt ends were incredible. The kind of bite that makes you pause and consider your life choices. The chicken breast fell apart with a fork. It was tender, flavorful, and cooked with care. Now let’s talk sides. The mac and cheese was a spiritual experience. Creamy, rich, and genuinely memorable. It tasted like someone in the kitchen really gives a damn. The onion rings were perfectly crispy on the outside, with actual flavor inside. No filler, just crunch and satisfaction. The cornbread was solid too. Slightly sweet, great texture, nothing too fancy. Just really good cornbread. I tried both BBQ sauces, and the spicy one had just enough kick to wake you up without torching your taste buds. It didn’t come to hurt you, just flirt with danger a little. Abbey’s is the real deal. This isn’t “good for California” barbecue. This is “worth flying for” barbecue. If you’re in San Diego and you skip this place, I can’t help you.

Google
I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and could tell from his outstanding attitude this place was going to be just as outstanding and it 100% did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, great customer service, and great food to top it all. Being our first time there we got 2 of the sample platters and my favorite was definitely the Brisket and Pork. Also a big thank you to Kianna for being excellent behind the counter making everything super easy and giving great recommendations! Will be returning soon!

Google
Super friendly! I couldn’t help but finish my wife’s leftover burger in the fridge, now I have to get her another one soon! 😆 Really, best burger I’ve ever had in my life. We’ll be back!

Google
The service was fantastic. The food was not smoked well at all. I had the number 1 sampler platter and all the meats were dry, except for the beef brisket, which was juicy. The beans were dry and not flavorful. The cornbread was very good. I was hoping this would be a good BBQ place. Kudos to the staff for the terrific service.

Yelp
Really awesome portions and food was delicious! Leftovers for days :) Can't wait to order again

Yelp
My quest for the best barbecue in San Diego continues. Thought the food here was okay but not spectacular. The cornbread was the best thing on the menu, followed by the onion rings and the brisket. We tried the Platter #1 and overall thought most of the meats were pretty dry (brisket, pulled pork, and ribs). I was not a fan of the ribs. The texture of the chicken was good but the flavor was just okay. The value of the food is pretty decent though! We shared the platter among two people and it was plenty of food. We were super stuffed after. The service was really great and the staff that took our order was extremely friendly and personable. She even came by to check in with us to make sure we didn't need anything else. The ambiance and decor was good as well - a casual, fun, and happening place with people coming in and out. Looks like it would be a nice spot to watch a game.

Yelp
What a fantastic authentic bbq spot in mira mar. The service and staff are super friendly and accommodating, Matt is super freaking awesome and always takes care of my homies which always me want to come back. Don't pass up the opportunity to get their burnt ends (get em sauced, the wings are great, the platters are hefty, and the corn bread is probably one of the best sleepers on the menu. Try it yall!

Yelp
4th of July dinner for the 2 of us. Opted To go out. First time here. It was good but nothing over the top. They were really busy and said it would be about 45 minutes to an hour. It turned out to only be about 25 minutes. The coleslaw was just okay. Beans had tasty meat chunks in them. Ribs were cooked well. Not super meaty but definitely okay. We opted for sauces on the side on both the ribs and chicken. The cornbread was tasty too and nice and moist. I would definitely come back and try the burnt ends next time

Yelp
Found this place on Instagram, and just had to give it a shot since I had just returned from a trip to Texas and felt like I could now be a good judge on authenticity. :) Staff was pleasant, ambiance was nice, decor was cute. Wait time wasn't bad and they had a nice breeze coming in along with fans going off which kept us feeling fresh. For the food, we ordered a plate for 2 of us and it was enough where we both felt full after. All of the meat was tender and flavorful, but what really blew me away was the potato salad! This was the best potato salad I have ever had and it left me wanting more even though I was full. Will be returning! (Also appreciated the cute plate they used)

Yelp
Came here for a friend's birthday lunch because he was craving BBQ and saw this place on Tik Tok. We ordered the brisket plate, brisket sandwich, corn bread, corn on the cob, fries, and onion rings. Corn on the cob was very bland, just literally a corn. The onion rings were massive, fries were standard. I felt like the brisket was dry and they just drench it in BBQ sauce to make up for the dryness. Portions were quite hefty! The place was spacious and the servers were extremely nice. Can't complain, but I wouldn't say the best BBQ in SD.
google avatar

Gene A.

Yelp
Tried their lemon pepper wings and sampler plate. Everything was delicious. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs were all delicious. Unfortunately they ran out of their homemade banana pudding but we'll be back again. Definitely want to try their sausages as well. Awesome place!
google avatar

Yelp
Quick stop for a bbq lunch while in SD. Order at the counter, find a seat and wait for your name to be called. Several menu items to choose from but I ordered the No. 1 - 4 meats, 2 sides and was of course sold on the banana pudding. Unfortunately I didn't snap a picture of my order before digging in but I did take a picture of my friend's rib and chicken lunch plate. My plate consisted of the same plus brisket and pulled pork. I must say the ribs were good and the chicken was not bad but I wasn't a fan of the other meats; in my opinion the brisket and pulled pork were both dry and flavorless. Not even the bbq sauce helped. However, the house-made potato salad, rice and beans were a hit and both recommended by the gal at the counter. Don't get me wrong this place ain't bad, it just didn't do it for me.

Yelp
First the bbq sauce was incredible and I absolutely loved it. Service was fast and staff was very friendly. I just thought all of the food was okay. I liked it, but it wasn't quite hot enough when it came out and it was all just slightly dry. I would be interested to try the burgers and sandwiches but the combo plate was on the expensive side. I went during the week for dinner and bbq places tend to be better on weekends and earlier in the day so I'm definitely taking that into account too. Would absolutely be willing to give it another try, though!

Yelp
3/14/24 7:30 pm. Service was great! The girl at the counter was very helpful and she did it with a big smile. Ambiance was nice, good music & very clean My brisket sandwich was good but personally think the meat could have been alittle more tender BUT it was cut pretty thick. I'd go back and try something different next time around

Yelp
We visited Abbey's Real Texas BBQ for our team lunch.  Place was very busy and there was a long wait for food unless you ordered a burger.  I ordered a rack of ribs which was $36.  I miss the old days when you could get a rack of ribs for under $30. Ribs were hot out of the warming machine.  Tender and juicy from the small amount of fat.  Loved the flavor from the peppercorn based dry rub and the smoking process.  These were great tasting baby back ribs.  The bbq sauce had a sharp vinegar flavor and I didn't use it. Staff was nice.

Yelp
We visited on a Mondays afternoon, around 5, right before the dinner rush so it was pretty empty. The person taking our order was very friendly and gave us lots of suggestions and recommendations. It is counter service, so you order and pick up your meals at the counter and sit whoever you like. Lots of seating is available. Abbey's was highly recommend for us to try and it did not live up to its expectation. Everything came out hot, but a majority of the food was very salty. The ribs were tender, but we found the rub to be very salty for us. The onion rings were very salty as well. The sauce was tangy and flavorful, but found it to be over powering with the saltiness of the meat. The ribs were tender and fall off the bone, but again, way too salty. I found the best items were the potato salad, the burger and the cornbread. I wish the cornbread was a little bigger. The portion sizes were pretty decent apart from the cornbread. I am hoping this was maybe a one off issue, maybe someone's hand slipped little too much with the salt. I would give it another shot.

Yelp
I ate so quickly I forgot to take a photo, so please forgive this unappetizing photo despite it being the best wrap I've had in my life. The bbq sauce is INCREDIBLE & the wrap is literally like a little burrito but with all the delicious barbecue flavor & pulled pork is phenomenal. I also got the beef brisket, but I feel like the wraps are really a bang for your buck because you get full while not having to pay twice the amount for the same amount of beef brisket or pulled pork. The wraps have meat in them that so incredibly tender & just add to the texture since it's not soggy on the outside as most other wraps get. The potato salad & bbq pinto beans were also the perfect sides/compliments to each other because it went from tangy to smoky to salty, & you can layer it on top of the wrap for an extra kick. I prefer this place over Phil's for the great choices & price point. I honestly wish I found this place sooner!

Yelp
Abbey's is our go to BBQ spot in San Diego!! The customer service a great and very friendly. The food tastes great and they aren't shy on their servings. Hands down, the best BBQ spot we've been to.

Yelp
Pretty good BBQ among our limited options in San Diego. I had the luncheon special ($16) consisting of 2 pork ribs and a quarter chicken with a side of onion rings. Ribs were excellent- meaty, soft and well seasoned. Chicken was small, but melt in your mouth delicious. (Asked for light meat and got dark). Onion rings were not good. Had a thick batter that didn't resemble any batter I've ever had and tasted greasy. There was a sizable line on this weekday at 11:30. You can order just ribs for about $26 for a half rack, which is pretty pricey, but still worth it.

Yelp
Great food, amazing customer service, and a nice southern vibe. Cornbread is to die for! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The Baby Ribs were on the drier side. It wasn't as tender as I would have thought they would've been. The coleslaw and fries were average and what you typically would expect it to be. The brisket was alright, some pieces were great and juicy but other pieces were dry and chewy. So it was a hit or miss. Other than that, the food was alright, nothing super amazing or great. However, the service was amazing, and the cashier who took our order was super friendly and asked if we needed anything and was super quick and eager to help. Not sure if I would come back, but definitely would say it's a great place to try once.

Yelp
Fun little smokehouse BBQ place located in a strip mall. This place doesn't have outdoor seating, but it does have plenty of indoor dining space. Good for groups and has enough space for large groups. Abbeys also caters, so if you're looking to have an event and want good BBQ catered, this is a great place to consider. They've got a great selection of BBQ, ranging from 12-30$ . I had the brisket, most of it was moist and flavorful, and the BBQ sauce on it was fantastic (you can order BBQ sauce on or on the side of your meat) Abbey's offers a good selection of beers on tap as well as bottled options (modelo and pacifico were my favorote). No hard booze, though. Service was fast and friendly. Almost no wait for the food, as it came out less than 5 minutes after we ordered. Ambiance here is super casual. Great for family and friends to get together. Swing by, and give it a try!

Yelp
Really disappointed! This restaurant has been around for years. About 10+ years ago I attended a party where they served this food. I remember it being delicious. I was soooo looking forward to some good BBQ. I split the #1 platter with my friend, $36.99. It consisted of beef brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, chicken and 2 sides. We chose coleslaw and beans. We also started with an order of onion rings. The onion rings came out overcooked, disappointing. Nothing special about them. We were so excited to get a big plate of delicious BBQ. There was a good size portion of brisket, but it was very dry, even with the sauce. There were 2 small pork ribs (not baby back). They were tender but skimpy. There was a small quarter piece of chicken (leg and thigh) with very little meat, but moist. And there was the pulled pork, dry and tasteless. We were so disappointed! There were 3 other people in our group. One ordered the baby back ribs, ate one and didn't even want to bring the rest home, another had brisket, he wasn't interested in bringing his leftovers home. That says something about the food. However, business was booming, not sure why? Also, wanted to say that I'm not one of these people super picky about BBQ. I just like good food and this was disappointing.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday around 1:00 PM, and the restaurant was surprisingly pretty full. You go up to the front to order then find your own table. The person taking our order kindly gave us recommendations and didn't rush us at all, giving us options about what was popular and the different combinations we could try. I was expecting a Texas-sized BBQ but was disappointed by the portions here. We got the lunch special which was around $17, and it came with 1/4 lb chicken, 2 pork ribs, 1 side, and cornbread. You'd think that's an INSANE deal, but when it came out we didn't think "REAL TEXAS" BBQ. - The pork ribs (4.5/5) were SO SMALL, like 2 bites and it's all gone type of small. They were the highlight of this plate. - Chicken (4/5) was okay, not dry but nothing special. - Coleslaw (3/5) was also nothing special. Most of the dressing was sitting in a pool at the bottom. - Cornbread (4/5) was solid but small. In addition, we ordered a half pound of the brisket -- what the person at the front said we should order. I'd give it a 2.5/5, it was pretty dry all around, thinly sliced, and didn't feel like the indulgent brisket experience you picture at a Texas bbq restaurant.

Yelp
One thing that San Diego is certainly not known for is barbecue, and so I generally do not seek it out, but when I stubbled upon Abbey's Yelp page, I had a feeling this would be worth the trip to Mira Mesa area. I was also very hopeful that their brisket would be worthy of my husband's praises. I am happy to say that after trying Abbey's, I can now point friends to a BBQ spot in San Diego that is worth trying! My husband also finished the meal by saying "that was fantastic" which is heard very rarely, so it was a success on multiple fronts. Here's what we had: - Burnt Ends (huge appetizer that great to share) - Pulled pork sandwich - Brisket sandwich - BBQ pinto beans - Mac salad Everything was delicious and exceeded expectations. We were also greeted when we walked in my management (owner possibly?) who could tell it was our first time and he walked us through the menu, made recommendations and was just extremely helpful and welcoming. Definitely add this to your list when you're craving BBQ in San Diego

Yelp
Spent $70 on two sampler plates and didn't enjoy it. Most of the meats were dry. Only the brisket was decent. The chicken was burnt and extremely dry. They gave a little tiny piece of corn bread. I felt they were being cheap with their food. Won't be coming back!
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
Ordered BBQ to go from Abbey's tonight. Forgot to take pics of our food as we were pretty hungry and this BBQ is great! We got some burnt ends and sausage as a side and a sampler. The Burnt ends are so so good. Perfect amount of smoky flavor and very tender. The sampler had chicken and brisket. Chicken was great but my favorite was the brisket by far. If you are searching for BBQ in San Diego...there's not many option but this place has the best welcoming service to go with their quality meats!

Yelp
I wanted to do a BBQ night at home and I have not been impressed with several of the barbeque options we have near us in Oceanside (i.e. Enzo's, Felix's). They are "okay" but I don't get that "real Texas" smoke that I'm looking for. I have a Masterbuilt smoker at home that is a beast, but the process of smoking meat is a long and tedious one, especially if you're only doing it for yourself or a couple of people (parties are different!). I heard people talking about Abbey's BBQ in a San Diego foodie group on FB, and enough people mentioned it that I took a look at their reviews. Some good ones, some not so good. But the not-so-good ones are always the whiners who never post a review until they have that one "bad" experience they must tell everyone about (like running out of napkins, etc). Passing by Miramar one day, I ordered some food for pickup: 1lb of brisket, 1lb of pulled pork, a whole smoked chicken and smoked burnt ends. I didn't need all the accessories (bread, coleslaw, etc) and the entire order was under $100 and ended up feeding 5 people and a dog for 2-3 days. It was a lot of food! Everything was great. Smoke flavor throughout...this was REAL Texas BBQ. Heck, it's just real BBQ in general. I love that I can see a smoke ring in the brisket clear as day and I can TASTE it too, most importantly. They gave us ample BBQ sauce too...tangy & slightly sweet. Would have loved a spicier version. Maybe next time. And there will be a next time. This is now my official go-to barbeque joint, especially if I need to impress friends but don't have time to fire up my own smoker. Would like to dine-in someday and enjoy the service and ambiance but it's a bit out of the way for us "northerners" (Oceanside). There seems to be an incentive program called spots, but I'm not really sure how that works. If it gets us a discount or a free appetizer, then I'll definitely be coming back more often.

Yelp
Came here on a sunday around lunch time... the place was busy and the dining area was full.. but the staff were quick to clear and clean tables for the next customers. Definitely a casual dining experience with large tvs set up on the walls. We ordered at the counter and waited just a few minutes for our food to be ready. We opted for one of their family meals plus a few additional items on the side. Brisket was nice and tender, their bbq sauce more on the tangy side. Tbh, the potato salad and cole slaw were unremarkable. But the cornbread was yummy and moist. Their battered onion rings were crispy.. and the chicken wings were meaty. My kid and i didnt care much for the garlic parm but that's a personal preference and there are other flavors to choose from. Overall a decent pick for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
This time, my coworkers and I decided to come to the restaurant and eat on site. It made such a difference! The food was fresh and delicious and I enjoyed it much better than when we got it delivered. We tried quite a few appetizers including Wings, Smoked Burnt Ends, Onion Rings and Smothered BBQ Fries with Brisket. The burnt ends were my favorite of the appetizers with the fries being a close second. They give a very generous portion of food too, which is good for the price you pay. For dinner, we got one of the family options with Brisket and Ribs. I thought the ribs were phenomenal, but I liked the brisket better with the fries than by itself. For sides, we picked the Rice and the Macaroni Salad. Both were pretty bland. They gave us cookies and cornbread as well. The cookies weren't good at all, but the cornbread was still very good (definitely more of a cake texture than bread). If you're thinking of eating from here, then definitely come in person! It makes a huge difference on your experience.

Yelp
We ordered takeout for a quick lunch before helping our daughter move. The food was ready quickly and the staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant had a casual atmosphere and looked like a fun place to get together with friends for BBQ and a few brews. We ordered the brisket plate and a combo with ribs, chicken, pulled pork and more brisket. We also got the fried okra, corn on the cob and rice. Food was tasty and they included plenty of sauce and condiments to spice up the meal. Cornbread was also delicious as others have mentioned. Overall a good experience!

Yelp
My brother requested bbq for his birthday so we decided to try Abbey's for the first time. I've always heard about this place, but never had an opportunity to try until now. There was a good amount of people when we got the restaurant, but plenty of tables to sit at. The restaurant has an old western type of vibe with interesting choices of decorations that add to its ambiance. When we made the order the lady said it was gonna take 20-30minutes which we were fine with. Let me tell you this. The wait was DEFINITELY worth it. I ordered the beef brisket with two sides (cornbread and corn on the cob) and it was DELICIOUS. The meat was tender and juicy and the cornbread was out of this world. I was deeply upset that i did not get another cornbread. I highly recommend the cornbread! You can skip the corn on the cob. Phils bbq is usually out of the way for me so this place is a good alternative to go to!

Yelp
This place rocks! Been going to Abbeys for a long time. The new place is much larger than their original location. The food is great. Great, real bbq is always hard to find. The smoke glacier really comes through. The brisket is perfect. Highly recommend the sampler. Anytime I'm working in the area or with family or friends I try to got this place.

Yelp
I've had BBQ across the Midwest, Texas, you name it and Abbey's compares with the best of them. Couldn't recommend it more highly, and you definitely will be leaving full and happy. Thanks for the awesome food and service!

Yelp
*loosens up belt if you want to get some real authentic texas bbq in California, this is the place to stop. apart from the outstanding flavor of the meat , the sides that come with it are amazing. Every bite you take, you don't want to stop chewing . make sure you bring a your "size up pants" because they are generous with their serving as well. The atmosphere makes the food more enjoyable. I want to thank them for their excellent service and my grandchildren , grandchildren will follow my steps and come to this restaurant as a tradition from now on .

Yelp
We had the best time at Abbey's yesterday! The food was very authentic, the meats were juicy and everything was overall affordability priced. It's a little out of the way but definitely worth the drive. The staff were so kind and helpful. The restaurant was full but the staff made sure to clean up a table and get us seats as soon as possible. We will definitely be back next time we come to San Diego.

Yelp
Delicious food and prompt service. Great friendly staff. Just not sure why you have to ask for napkins. It's a bbq joint, where is the roll of paper towels on the tables because your hands are guaranteed to be messy if it's good . But no reason to knock down a star. This is a must try bbq joint. Delicious food hands down! Will be back.

Yelp
Abbey's is such a great spot for BBQ in San Diego! They have a lot of options for BBQ meats and great side items/appetizers. We tried one of the sampler plates and it was great. It came with 2 sides and we chose fried okra and rice topped with beans. The brisket is incredible!!! So tender and melt in your mouth. For appetizers we got the wings and burnt ends. The wings were crispy and we got the sauce on the side to dip. The burnt ends were amazing. So fatty and tender. They've also got the best corn bread I've ever had. They have tons of seating indoors. Service is really friendly. Parking is easy. Definitely recommend checking Abbey's out!

Yelp
This place reminds me of the gas station bbq joints that you find all throughout Dallas,TX. The location is in the first strip mall behind Better Buzz Coffee, off Miramar Road. The atmosphere and decor is nice where they have bbq sayings on the wall. They have a self serve your own drinks and utensils stations. The staff is also quite friendly and the service is prompt. We ordered the sampler 1 which was plenty of food for both of us. It included pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, pork ribs, and brisket. It also came with choices of 2 sides (we had beans and potato salad) and cornbread or Texas toast. The chicken was juicy, but the star of the bbq were definitely the ribs. The ribs were flavorful and had a good crust of rub. Minus 1 star since the pulled pork and brisket were both dry. The cornbread was also very delicious, sweet, and spongy not dry like typical cornbread. The bbq sauce is served warm and has a very good flavor. Overall we will be back to have more of the ribs and cornbread.

Yelp
Horrible food. The coleslaw is not traditional, it's bitter and has some nasty seasoning in it. The BBQ sauce is not good, the corn turns to mush the moment you sink your teeth in. All the meat just tastes smoked and burnt. The pulled pork sandwich is not tender. The banana pudding is so small for the price and tastes like boxed banana pudding you can make at home. Would not recommend this place and will not ever go back.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Abbey's BBQ! The brisket was incredibly mouthwatering, the cesar salad was fresh, and the BBQ chicken was a flavorful. Can never go wrong with their side of cornbread and banana pudding! Their staff is friendly, fun, and makes you feel like family when you walk through their doors. I've been coming here since 2014 and each time I visit it just keeps getting better and better! The restaurant is clean, and they have been doing some nice decor updates in recent years. I'm so happy to see what they're doing with menu items and they're just getting busier and busier. A must-try for anyone who appreciates delicious barbecue!

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this place out for a while from seeing it in instagram. I liked the restaurant style, where you order at the counter and you pick it up and take it to your table. It's a very casual setting. There was plenty of parking and the service was very friendly. We ordered the family order for $85. It was plenty of good to feed 7 people. The sides were a significant size and the meat was plenty. Chicken 8/10 Tritip 7/10 Ribs 6/10, they didn't fall off the bone as we're used to and the meat was a bit tough

Yelp
I really liked this place! I highly recommend eating at the restaurant and not taking it to go. The portions in person are bigger and when I took the food to go, the meat was cold. I enjoyed the brisket salad and the cornbread. I recommend getting the lunch specials. The workers were very nice and pretty efficient. I love how I felt like I was in Texas when I ate there!

Yelp
Holly snipes!! This BBQ is was da bomb dot com!! Let's start with great customer service! Ashlynn was very knowledgeable for my first time and when she answered with her recommendations I knew I was in the right hands!! And oh boy she didn't disappoint!! You smell the bbq from the parking lot and as soon as you walk in people are smiling and 80s rock music is playing and you feel like you at home!! Treat yourself to great San Diego Texas BBQ!! Sampler No 1 gets you a taste of everything and let me say the Brisket (which is my favorite) melts in your mouth so order a half pound order!! But everything is good here along with extra bbq sauce you will be the winner!! Oh and trust me, order a loaf of that corn bread!! Trust me!! Do it! Take the drive and then walk it off at UTC!! Awesome experience thank you guys! Loved it!! I'm Coming back

Yelp
Got 2 family meals. Fairly priced for the amount of food, tasted great and had fantastic service when talking with the owner. The brisket and chicken were cooked perfectly and the sauce as it should to let the meat shine through. The setting is as a bbq joint should be and it feels like a portal to Texas. Worth the trip if you're craving bbq.

Yelp
I am seriously so sad I only took 1 picture of my food but that also shows how amazing this was! We tried the sampler plate which had brisket, chicken, and pulled pork. It came with two sides and I chose Mac salad and coleslaw. We also got chicken wings, corn bread, and their burnt ends. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT!!!! Them burnt ends and corn bread was probably the BEST I have ever had in my LIFE!!!! The burnt ends were sooo perfectly cook and juicy! The corn bread just melts in your mouth and will literally give you an out of body experience!!! It's that damn good! Matthew who runs the business with his family came out and talked to us and told us more about the process that went into making all their meats. He was super nice and friendly since there was no one else there besides so he took his time explaining everything! The chicken wings are sooo amazing by itself!!! He brought out some sauces for us to try and dip it in but you know what?! Their wings are so crispy and flavorful that it's PERFECT just the way it is! I felt the sauces just weren't good enough for the wings! The inside of this place is huge! Come bring your family and have this amazing meal! I came here with two friends and my son and there was plenty of seating! I seriously dream about their burnt ends and cornbread

Yelp
We ordered online the amazing no 1 sampler packed with ribs, brisket, pulled pork and smoked chicken. Wow! It's a huge feast! The meats were super tender and pulled pork melted in your mouth. It's the best pork we ever tasted. The restaurant is decorated as Texas bbq themed and has great lunch specials. It came with great tasty sides as well. The macaroni salad and potato salad are great matches for the savory bbq. The brisket sandwich and wings were delicious as well. Everything here is fantastic. When an independent third party delivery service messed up and cancelled my order, the manager delivered the food to ensure we had our lunch. That was exceptional customer service to the highest level. They truly care about their customers! My family and I are now loyal Abbeys bbq fans from now on! We plan to frequent this outstanding bbq place in person! Awesome Bbq- Job well done!

Yelp
I'd actually give this place 4.5 stars. Came here cause we were in town for a basket tournament. Came here on a Saturday night around 5 and there was a small line that went fairly quick. We ordered.... -Family pack #1 (you have a choice of 1 lb of beef brisket OR pulled pork, OR hot links. Served w/3 pcs of cornbread and choice of 2 sides and chocolate chip cookies) We got it with beef brisket, yellow rice and fries. It came with 3 choc chip cookies! The brisket was soft and tender the sausage was nice and spicy! The yellow rice was just like any rice. The cookies were soft and delicious! The cornbread was moist! Crusty on the outside and soft on the inside! The food was so delicious and tasty!! The BBQ sauce was perfection!! Not too tangy! Not too sweet! Just riiiight! Only thing I would mention is that it didn't have as much food as I thought it would considering it's a "family pack". The size of this family pack could feed 2 adults and 1 kid, and be not full full, but not hungry. -smoked burnt ends was soft and tender!! It didn't have that burnt yucky taste on them either! We also ordered the Micheladas. It was very refreshing!! Overall, this place has delicious food and great service! *sorry no pics of food cause we were too hungry

Yelp
The food again was AMAZING, there's always plenty of parking spots so that's very convenient. The place itself is very clean and the people working there are kind too. The food always comes out quick and it's always hot which I appreciate because other places serve almost cold meat. Everything we got this time was so delicious again! This if my to go spot when I'm craving bbq.

Yelp
When your just doing an overnight in an area and the hotel clears only suggestion is bar food I start looking for BBQ. This was a good choice I only wish I was not by myself so I could try more then one meat. The brisket was moist and had good flavor on its own. The sauce is a typical cider vinegar based sauce which has good tang. The sides coke slaw was a bit dry and not my style the mac sale as good. The location has beer wine and does happy hour 3 to 6 They have several lunch specials which would be a good way of trying a few items. The sampler plates also look good To find the place is easy just look for the strip mall behind the Denny's Give the place a try friendly staff and food came out quickly

Yelp
Came here based on a TikTok review. We were visiting San Diego and were craving bbq. The flavor is amazing, definitely worth trying. The brisket was butter and the ribs were tender. The corn bread is on another level. The beans, macaroni and potato salad were basic. The highlight here is the brisket, ribs and cornbread. Nice smoke ring in the food. The staff were friendly and made great suggestions. The restaurant was clean with a Texas vibe. The bathrooms were clean. We will definitely be back when visiting San Diego.

Yelp
Small sandwiches have plenty of meat and spicy barbecue sauce. Good flavir and tender meat.
