"Sometimes called “the people’s market,” and originally founded in 1943 as a Victory Garden wartime effort, Alemany is the oldest farmers market in San Francisco, and supposedly the state of California.  Days: Saturdays" - Becky Duffett

Google
This is a no frills Saturday farmers market with lots of fresh produce at better prices. We get a haul every time we go. Vendors are nice, but some stalls get busy so be prepared to stand your ground. There are good food and bakery cart options behind the south facing stands on the Alemany side. Parking looks tough, so figure out another way to get there if you can.

Google
Amazing farmers market in SF. Alemany offers a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables with friendly vendors and reasonable prices. Love the variety of Asian vegetables which can be hard to find in other farmers markets. Although it gets pretty crowded, I’ve never had to wait for a parking spot.

Google
I did not know where to park but realized that if you drive in and around, there is a lot of parking inside. Also, nothing is ready at 6am...not all us even up at 7am. I would say come after that. There is a little bit of wvery crop you could want. Also, flowers and honey!

Sockna Dice

Google
Great place for fresh produce and flowers, honey and other farm products. No crafts, this is a real farmers market for food. Go early to get the best selection and a close parking space.

Andrea Jesse

Google
I love this place! Forget the posh Farmer's Markets elsewhere in San Francisco. Instead meet some down-to-earth growers and food makers. There's a wide variety of food stuff available. Regular folks selling to regular folks. Conveniently located right off the freeway with ample parking.

Google
fun for the hunt. Here is my collection of Ceramics for my succulents. Each piece was only 1 to 2 dollars. Such a bargain. I go every Sunday. My last bargain was Japanese obi for 10.00 My husband always finds tools he can use.

Michael Prince

Google
This was a world class antiques market but unfortunately the director and his asstant of the city of San francisco real estate department who ran this market totally ruined it . Their rude prejudicial unfairness and blatant unwillingness to allow non-professional vendors sell on a regular basis or as an occaisional vendor has brought this market down, and they seem to be happy doing it .

Google
Lots of Asian veggies with better prices than most farmers markets in the Bay Area

Yelp
Delicious farm fresh produce, what's not to love?? Well, parking can be tricky/the area gets very congested if traveling by car and get there...not early. But the art here is great, there's space to walk around, a wide variety of vendors (it's big!), lots of samples, great prices - for organic produce especially. My favoritest things are found here - dried persimmons! - and I can't find them in stores/anywhere else. Very happy to have this Saturday morning option!

Raymond G.

Yelp
Probably one of the biggest farmers market on the southeast side of San Francisco. Growing up, it's been mostly fruits and vegetables but now they have all sorts of vendors. Parking is easy if you go early as it fills up very quick and the area can be tough to find street parking outside the market.

Yelp
Very big, very cheap, and very delicious farmer's market. I arrived around 8:45am and easily found parking. My favorite stands: At the very western end of the market, there is an unmarked stand that sells apples from wooden crates. There is usually a guy there with a cowboy hat. This place has by far the cheapest apples of any farmer's market ... $1.25 / lb and also the widest selection. The Fuji apples are delicious but this is also a great opportunity to try some lesser known apples that aren't available in your regular grocery store -- Mutsu, Pippin, Howard, Jonahgold. They also sell gala, granny smith, honeycrisp & red delicious. Spend some time picking out the best ones. This stand also shows up at Heart of the City Farmer's Market on Wednesdays & Sundays. Rodriguez Farms, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. They offered me a free sample, and woah, I had to buy some. The strawberries were so juicy and sweet. $6 for 1 basket & $15 for 3-baskets of certified organic strawberries. $16 for a combo pack with 1 basket each of strawberries, raspberries & blackberries. Lopez Family Farm, offered a sample of pluot and it was incredible, so of course I had to buy some pluots. $3 / lb. Far West Fungi, delicious mushrooms, amazing selection, great prices. $5 per 8 oz basket of ugly shiitakes. There are a few stands that I haven't seen at any other farmer's market nearby: - Bodega Bay Oysters - City Fish Company - Joceline's Wildflower Honey - Bariani Olive Oil - Duck Eggs ($20 for 15 eggs)

Yelp
I live not too far from here and finally had a car and a free Saturday to swing by for some shopping. I arrived around 9am and found parking pretty easily and got to work. I did a quick lap first to see what vendors were there and where I could do the most shopping, and I ended up spending around $60 on flowers, eggs, and a bunch of produce. This was two weeks ago and my flowers are still going strong, and all of the produce was good. I also got an iced coffee w/horchata from El Huarache Loco (which I would probably go back for alone) and a croissant from Panorama Baking Company. I'd love to try some of the food trucks for lunch on a future visit.

Yelp
Alemany Farmers' Market...the place to be at on Saturday Morning I been coming here whenever I get a Saturday Morning available. The place can be jam pack with lots of people and not much parking spaces. A lot of vendors at this farmers market to check out with great service. I come here for Rita's Catering & Eatery...the place to get a good home cooked Filipino food. A reasonable price to get Filipino food compare to going to Goldilocks. I have inform Rita's Catering & Eatery that I enjoyed eating their food whenever I am in town. Definitely check out Alemany Farmers' Market

Yelp
Got some Miyajima Oyster (I think that's the name) These were so good. It was a dozen for $20 but they gave me 3 extra ones! I realized it when I got home and was so happy. These were sweet & salty in a good way. I just ate it with some lemon. So delicious and simple.

Yelp
It is a fun way to save money, get your vegetables, fruits and support your local farmers! The "unattractive looking vegetables can really save you $$$, most stuff is sliced, diced or smushed anyway. Leave the beauty contest to others. You will find juice, fruit and nuts samples. Try before you buy! Farmer probably prefer cash but some do take credit cards, Venmo or Zelle. Ask before, you pick out your goods!! Bring a good study shopping bag or backpack, it get bards to carry all the little plastic bags. Come early to find parking, it can be a challenge. There are plenty portable potty, just remember to hold your breath. Haha. Most of all, enjoy the day, feel good about patronizing our local farmers.

Karina R.

Yelp
Small but good options here! There are a variety of stands, pretty much selling some of the same things with the exception of a few specific to one. Came on a Saturday morning, around 9:30/10AM and it was already getting pretty crowded. Luckily we knew what we wanted and were able to get it all then leave! Parking can be a little hard, you have to be on the close lookout for a spot but also for pedestrians and other cars trying to pass you by! Bringing this rating down 1 star as I wish there was a little more organization for parking and walking pathway. But, this is in a big open lot so I see where they too are limited. Nonetheless, I did like this location and I especially loved the flower stand! Definitely come early, bring cash (makes it easier) and have your list ready!

Yelp
Great san Franciso farmers market in a street away from the crowds. This farmers market is not your typical tourist attraction, but butter. Fresh fruits and vegetables for very good prices, fresh flowers, some food trucks/stands. Most vendors use Venmo or zelle. Parking is available at the market and is very easy to find a spot. Stop by to load up on your fresh groceries! If I lived in the city I would come back weekly!

Jeanette C.

Yelp
This is the oldest and best Farmers Market in the City. I've been shopping there for years. I get all of my produce at Alemany. The variety of produce can't be beat anywhere - truly international. When I'm curious and adventurous, I'll ask the vendor what a vegetable is and how to prepare it. The varieties of fruit are amazing. Prices are reasonable and everything is very fresh - straight from the farms. Delicious! It's also nice to get to know the people who grow your food...

Yelp
When I was little, my family and I would come here on Sunday's for the Swap Meet's. However just recently, I have been experiencing going to the Flea Market's on Saturdays because of my bf, and I never realized how diverse and amazing this Flea Market is. It's to the point where I wouldn't mind getting most of my produce here rather than the local grocery market. *Saturday - Flea Market - Still open during Pandemic since it's considered a necessity. *Sunday - Swap Meet - NOT open since the Pandemic occurred as it is not a necessity. *PRO's: -Diversity and ample choices of produce that you would not be able to get at your local Safeway or Asian Supermarket. (For example: Bittermelon leaves...Saluyot...Shishito sweet peppers especially for a cheap price per pound...) -The security guards do a great job at walking the entire place enforcing people to social distance and wear their masks!!!! -Cheap negotiable prices :) CON's: -Parking! If you're not a walker just as many people that come to the Flea Market...parking is not your best friend in this area lol

Michael H.

Yelp
Aspiring chef or city restauranteur, every cook can find amazing produce here. Many fruit stalls price their stone peaches, nectarines, plums, Asian pears, etc at $2/lb, and the rest of the vegetable produce is amazingly fresh and cheap. You can also find very niche ingredients here, which was what brought me here, such as: -Taro roots/leaves (for fresh poi) -Fresh Kumamoto oysters ($18 for 12) -Super special citrus varieties -Lilikoi (broke da mouf POG bread loaf incoming!) -Wild, raw rose bud honey (perfect for earl gray tea) and more! Most vendors are really friendly and will point you in the right direction if they don't have what you're looking for. A good number of Yelpers knock off stars for the parking sitch. It's tough. At 8:00 AM expect to sit for at least 10 min as you sit in your car slowly creeping towards the small parking lot, though I got lucky with a spot on the right curb as I was in line for the lot. Ultimately I can't fault this place for its tough parking. Some people "sneak" in the lot by going up the hill, down, and into the back of the market, which I will probably do next time and so could you too :)

Tien L.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite farmers' markets in San Francisco. I love the diversity of veggies and produce here. They sell fresh yam leaves and bittermelon ( of different colors). Parking is a bit of a pain, so I recommend going early or be okay with parking a few blocks away. Or take public transportation. Or bike! Of all the farmers' markets I've visited in the Bay Area, Alemany has some of the lowest prices I've seen.

Lauren N.

Yelp
Amazing gem of a farmers market! I was fascinated by the plethora of unique vegetables rarely seen at other markets, including 山药, translated as mountain yam or wild yam. My relative from Hong Kong came to visit, and I brought her to this market. She was very impressed to see that they had this yam fresh, as it is typically sold dry and used medicinally. The purple sweet potato I bought from....oh, which farm? I can't remember, but they were such a pleasure to eat. Vibrantly purple, chock-full of natural sweetness and nutrients. I can't wait to get more. Loved sampling the selection of asian pears, as well. It was really an experience to taste the differences in fragrance and texture between the pear varieties. Tldr: Just come to this farmers market!!!

Annie Z.

Yelp
This is an amazing Farmer's Market! I was so use to farmers markets with extremely over-priced produce and people dress up and visit them like tourist attractions. This is NOT one of those farmer's markets. This one reminds me of a wet market (minus the animals) in Asia where locals actually shop daily or weekly. Parking here can be difficult so plan accordingly and make sure you bring bags and cash! Very few merchants take Square but keep recommending it and perhaps things will change! :)

OnlyatBrandei S.

Yelp
I've lived in the Bay Area most of my life. I live within walking distance of this market. I love farmers' markets as a general rule. I've been to this market twice and it is possibly the worst farmers' market I have ever visited. I likely won't bother visiting again. The vendor volume, selection, variation of produce, and quality are embarrassingly poor. There is pretty much only produce, and very little in the way of baked goods, meat products, prepared foods, etc. I bought a pomelo that was so dry it was inedible and had to be thrown away. The Asian pears I bought were mealy and had a bitter flavor. It makes me sad that there's a physical setup for a market, and the execution is so poor.

Lu-Shien T.

Yelp
After the amazing reviews, I was positively psyched to visit. Even the rain didn't dampen my excitement. But parking was challenging--understatement. Think snarling lines of stressed out drivers trying to vie for parking or get the heck outta there. And the produce... Well, while it was fresh for the most part, the variety didn't impress me. The fruit was good but not mindblowingly different in quality from say, Costco--shudder. But when you factor the cost--meh. Maybe it was because we were between seasons, but I was disappointed with the produce and fruit section. Then when I cruised the food tents, I did not find anything I was compelled the to eat, and I came hungry! I ended up buying 5 potato samosas which were quite decent even when cold, but for $10? Meh. I will return soon, and hope this place wows me the second time. Here's a tip: the restrooms are at the back of the office building in the middle of the vegetable side of stalls.

Amulya K.

Yelp
The best farmer's market in SF if you're looking for variety and a great deal! Lots of produce, fruits, and some pupusas and pizzas if you get hungry!

Haylee A.

Yelp
This place is a mad house and parking is limited/scary, but they definitely have the best selection (for produce, not for eating places) so I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a Farmer's Market. If you want flowers though, go here! Such good selection for the lowest prices. I was blown away!

Rita H.

Yelp
Do you think that farmers markets should mostly have stands with produce from actual farmers, instead of arts & crafts and prepared food stands? Then this is the farmers market for you. It's the best in the city, if not the country, considering how huge it is, the quality of the produce, the variety, and the value. And it's not just tomatoes and berries in the summer, but many international varieties grown by local farmers, which you don't see in mainstream stores. There are also a few prepared food stands in an adjacent parking lot, which are delicious in their own right, but our family comes here almost every weekend for produce that can't be beat.

Amy -.

Yelp
Open during Shelter in Place, but with fewer vendors and mostly cash-only. TL;DR - Fun Saturday activity! OK, OK, OK... I've lived in SF for 5 years now and used to live super close to this place and yet only decided to drop-in to this wonderful weekly market recently. This is a really unique structure - no pop-up tents, it's like pre-built 'plots' and vendors show up. All of the plots have cute murals!! It reminds you of the history and diversity of San Francisco. (The history of SF is pretty messed up if you look too deep though.) I AM IN LOVE WITH SOME OF THE VENDORS. Like basils for $1.50 a bunch but you get enough to last you like a lifetime lol (I put them in a vase with water and now they're growing roots). I love the carrots with the leaves on top. Though I'll be honest, this market isn't the cheapest. I did pay $16 for cauliflower, 4 onions, and carrots at one vendor which was more than what I'd pay at the Asian grocery store just a few blocks away.

Yelp
#5/2016 I thought you needed a business license to shop the Alemany Produce Market. You don't! And now I know where all the chefs and foodies, mom 'n' pop restaurants and home cooks are buying their goods. On a drizzling Saturday we set off in search of whatever would strike our fancy, food agenda completely open. At every stall, we reveled in fresh, well-priced produce, chock full of staples like kale, ginger, garlic, lemons, apples, eggs & broccoli. Giant amounts of bok choy were available for a song and I bought a 3# bag of Meyer lemons for $4. Pomegranates and fresh pomegranate juice, lemongrass, cars cara oranges, cauliflower, sunflower sprouts, kiwi- I sure have a lot to cook starting with pork & lemongrass Thai meatballs & Cara Cara orange polenta bread. The vendors couldn't have been nicer (though some shoppers were pushy with sharp elbows) and one vendor gave me a deal on some delicious raspberries even though it was far from its 2:30pm closing time, nice! A big bag of onions and sweet potatoes for $3, a giant head of cauliflower, almost as big as your head, $2, a bag of 15-18 naval oranges for $5- the deals are exceptional. Menu planning is by inspiration and what's seasonal. When I shop here, I feel inspired to cook and make healthy, delicious meals made from California's beautiful produce, the best in the world!

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Parking is kind of hard to find. It almost seems like a free for all, and at one point I saw two cars head-to-head in a single lane, where they couldn't pass each other. I didn't stick around to see how that was resolved. Will try coming earlier next week to see if that helps with the parking situation, and will report back. Saturday's have the actual farmers market, Sunday's are more of a swap meet.

Gustavo C.

Yelp
Lots of great vegetables and fruits. Beautiful flowers everywhere. I got a bunch of flowers to make a bouquet! I'll be posting it later on!

Sara S.

Yelp
We recently moved to the Portola from Pac Heights and we keep falling in love with our new neighborhood the more we explore. I was very excited to go to this farmers' market and check out the selection. It's huge! Much bigger than the Fort Mason Farmers' Market that we frequented in our old neighborhood. They had a really good selection and the prices were extremely fair for organic produce, which was surprising, as I am used to the high priced farmers' markets. In addition to fresh produce they have fresh pasta, bread, eggs, flowers, honey, olive oil, nuts, and food stalls to grab some breakfast. I didn't give it 5 stars because I didn't see a seafood stall nor did I see a meat stall. However, there was an oyster stall selling kumamotos for $16 a dozen. Parking seems like a nightmare, so you've been warned. Luckily, we love within walking distance. Yay!

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Whoa this is the hugest Farmers Market I've been to! Decided to stop by as I've never been and was in the area...produce galore with food vendors Not prepared and will definitely have to come back and bring my own reusable bags...I would think morning is best so not so crowded and parking easier...convenient and right off of I-280

Naty D.

Yelp
Best farmers market in the city. Doesn't have the view that Ferry Building has nor the hipster vibe or cool appeal but it does have a huge parking lot. It's more of a local people's market vibe. There's more Asian vegetables here that you won't find at the Ferry but will find at the Civic Center Heart of the City Farmer's Market. Seasonal fruits, vegetables, flowers, eggs, fresh pasta and even oysters. You could eat your breakfast, lunch, or grab a snack before, after, or during your shopping. No they don't have blue bottle but they have plenty of other vendors selling fresh baked bread and pastries like Panorama. There's pizza, papusas, huaraches, and a Filipino food truck. Tomatero Farm, Far West Fungi, Glenn Tanimoto, are our favorites but there are a handful of Asian vendors from as far as Fresno. You could also pick up your garden plants from large fruit trees to all sorts of hard to find herbs and even orchids. On Sundays there's a flea market. Here's a short little article about it on Serious Eats http://www.seriouseats.com/2013/10/market-scene-alemany-farmers-market-san-francisco.html

Jackie S.

Yelp
I admit when I first came here I wasn't very impressed with it. This is my second time here and I have more of an open mind and appreciate the market more. Also started cooking hah. In $20 I got: - whole wheat walnut loaf from Panorama - 1 lb Brussels spouts - 1 bunch parsley - 1 cucumber - 1/2 lb of walnut pieces - 2 lb green apples It can be a bit crowded though. I came at around 9am thinking I'd beat SF crowds but there were tons of people! I live in SF and I would highly recommend taking the bus 67 if you can. SO convenient and you get dropped off right in front of the market. Pretty affordable stuff! Would definitely recommend. Bring your bags!

Tim X.

Yelp
I've been coming here almost every Saturday since moving to San Francisco. There is no better place to get fresh, in-season, organic produce at a more reasonable price than Whole Foods and other grocers. There's a great blend of fruit, veggie, specialty, and food vendors. Everyone is friendly, no one takes pennies (rounds to the nearest nickel), and people of all ages come here. Pro tips: sometimes later in the day, the vendors will start discounting in an effort to sell off everything. If you want to test your luck, try coming around 1pm. As others have already mentioned, parking can be a bit tricky. There is a lot and it rarely fills up to 100%, but you may need to circle a bit far. Peak hours seem to be 9 - 10:30 AM.

ST T.

Yelp
Real unpretentious farmers market ! the best in SF. If you are looking for soaps, expensive coffee/food or looking for ferry building farmers market type vibe, this is not the place. Lots of families and a true community market.

Yelp
Update (13 Aug 2006): Well, now I am hooked. I've been to Alemany Farmers' Market 6 Saturdays in a row. No longer do we buy vegetables or fruits at Whole Foods. Now, I know what are the seasonal produces, which wasn't the case before when I used to shop only at big super markets like Krogers and Safeway. TIP: If you buy things in large bulks, like an entire box, you should ask for a big discount. They'll be open to negotiating with you. TIP: You don't need to show up at the crack of dawn, but make sure you arrive before 1 PM at latest. By 2 pm, many vendors start packing up. -------------------------------- Original Posting: Great find! I found it much more useful and economical than Ferry Building's Farmer's Market. Ferry Building Farmer's Market (http://www.yelp.com/biz/gaiA5XmqTeYODmzQgM8CHw) customer drives from Marin County in a Land Rover and doesn't mind paying $10 for valet parking, typically buying only a handful of items in a small bag here and there. Brunch at Greens (http://www.yelp.com/biz/XgYC_Yj1OjghUZu15yOeaQ) on the way home. Alemany Farmer's Market customer drives from Daly City in a Honda and would never pay parking to buy fruits and vegetables, typically buying items in box loads. Lunch at In-and-Out (http://www.yelp.com/biz/ktbHckr43zcX80v-JiFsMw) on the way home. TIPS: If you drive here, don't be so concerned about finding parking near the entrance. Keep driving until you reach a large parking lot near the foot of the hill. Maybe I'm missing out on something, but I didn't find the need to get here so early in the morning. Showing up around 11 am, vendors had plenty of fruits and veggies at awesome prices. Strawberries were so sweat!

John G.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place long before organic became popular. Back in the 80's, the shoppers were predominantly of Asian background. From my people (Filipinos) to Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, Cambodian, Laotian you name it. Besides that, I speak ILocano; a Filipino dialect and I can haggle with the vendors in my native tongue. Now a days, you can see all types of people with different backgrounds and ethnicity, which is great. I say the more the merrier. We can all share on our wealth and knowledge on different cuisines, dishes, fruits and veggies. I love this place. I love getting the fresh foccacias from that nice lady. I love getting eggs and balut. I love sampling different chutneys from the Afghan vendor. And boy, he is proud to give you a sample. I love getting all kinds of fresh veggies and you can always haggle to get the price you want. I love getting oranges from different vendors and they always have a sweet, delicious sample for you to try. And depending on the season, you can get a sack of sweet oranges for a low low price. 2 to $ 5.00 is a steal I say. And parking is free. To avoid the parking nightmare as others seem to have, just get there early and avoid the hassle of jousting for a parking space. Even if you get there late, there's a spot on the corner where you can always find a space. Oops....I just gave my secret away.

Ankita R.

Yelp
We recently moved close to the area and hence decided to try this market as we love exploring nearby farmers markets and buying stuff from local vendors. We reached well after 12 pm and parking was a bit of a hassle. We realized after wandering around a bit that there are a lot of open parking spaces towards the back of the parking lot. They had many vegetable, fruit and flowers vendors. We bought some stuff from Jacobs farm. Pretty reasonable. Lot of variety of asian veggie and fruit stalls. However, I wish there were more options for food and drinks. There were only a bunch. The vibe is very different to Marin County Farmers market or ferry building farmers market but you get most of the things here that you would get there.

Edwin R.

Yelp
What a treat to see the locals who lives in this part of town enjoying their day picking out fresh fruits and vegetables and everything in between. I particularly enjoy seeing the senior citizen who come down to get their exercise. I am all for everyone spending as much time outdoors as possible and especially on a beautiful day, seeing this many people makes my heart feel so good. There were plenty of fruits and vegetables vendors at this farmer's market venue. So there were stiff competition for each vendor but they seemed to all be doing well and from what it looked liked have developed a relationship and have their loyal customers in placed. Very cool! It was nice to see a few orchids and a handful of nursery plants, but I would've liked to have seen more food trucks at this location. I did managed to get my "Filipino" fix but she was the only one on site. I also bought pupusas but nothing like what I'm used to. So recommendation for the Alemany Farmers Market person in charge: bring more for food trucks here (especially during summertime when weather is super nice) and also provide places to sit and eat. It's always a draw, the longer people spend at a venue, the more money they'll spend and better for the event and everyone overall. Just my two cents! Cheers ~

Tommy L.

Yelp
I live a block away from this place but I rarely come here because I tend to sleep in...very...very...late. I've came here before with my Dad usually to buy duck & quail eggs. My most recent trip I picked up flowers for my sisters graduation. Parking can be intense so I'm glad I'm able to just walk there. I've seen people try to park right by my house! There are a lot of vendors and people here buying groceries and what not. I didn't really have time to look around but obviously you have your veggies, fruits, flowers, nuts, eggs, and some other things. Everything is pretty cheap too. I got three bunches of flowers for $14! What a deal!!! P.S. This is a good spot to practice driving! My parents taught me how to drive here ;). I've seen other people do it too. Its a good open space when the market is closed.

Adriana G.

Yelp
Fresh produce, great prices, wonderful variety, helpful staff; I love this farmers market. Beware: 1. Parking is terrible (check around the neighborhood because you will more than likely not find parking in the small lot) 2. People are a bit pushy and shovey Recommendation: 1. Be here by 9AM, preferably before (asking a bit much, I know) 2. Walk around before you commit, I noticed the same quality produce in the middle aisle for a better price

Ming C.

Yelp
Over the years the popularity of farmers markets has grown due to the prices of foods and local supermarkets and some of the inventory that they carry. Because of this coming here has grown from OK to almost impossible. I was able to come here a few years ago and just go in and out within 30 minutes. Nowadays even trying to pass by will take over an hour due to all the people driving and double parking at certain key locations. Police do no enforcement of parking. Not popular enough for police to care basically.

Tammy T.

Yelp
This is by far the most affordable farmers market in SF. It also has some of the best selection. The fairy plaza market has as just as many if not more vendors and has a large selection, it certainly has a wide variety of high end products. I don't like dealing with the high end attitude. The Alemany farmers market is more down to earth. The goods are way more affordable. The vendors are as solid as the ground they sell on. Buying here can save you money but to me the best part is supporting the farmers (as opposed to large chains grocery stores), supporting community and the planet. I grew up in the bay area and I have been buying strawberries from the same grower in Watsonville at the farmers markets my whole life. If its not in season your not going to find it here. If its not in season and you can buy it at the grocery store then it came from far away. If its coming from far away its not fresh. It also has some great history, being the oldest in the city.

Yelp
I can't believe i never rated FM on Alemany Blvd. I go there every month with my mom to get her asian vegetables where they're cheap, fresh, and they give you A LOT. Their asian vegetables are fresher and cheaper than even going to the asian supermarkets like Pacific supermarket or Manila Oriental. If you buy asian leafy vegetables, you'll sometiimes be lucky and also get the actual small vegetables or vice-versa as extra freebies. If you're going for asian vegetables, only go to asian sellers since they have the freshest/cheapest. We go in the morning, but my mom always loses when she has to compete against all the chinese customers there:-) So I make her wake up earlier at around 5am and we take a taxi cab or uber over there and back. The earliest muni bus going there, the 23, starts around 6am, so getting there before 6am will allow you to avoid most of the rowdy "ready to knock you down for that rare asian vegetable" chinese customers:-) as well as not having to get swallowed up by the large crowds that start up at around 720am on Saturdays. We usually are able to finish by 7am. Of course it's CHILLY at 5am, so dress appropriately:-( You'll need a large bag with wheels since you'll be doing a LOT of walking, unless you're coming by car and come early enough to be lucky to get parking.

Yelp
Fresh produce for cheap!! Almost all the produce was clean too. I know sometimes leafy veg can be pretty filthy at supermarkets, but here everything seems pretty clean/ excess dirt free. Don't let the parking and crowds of shoppers deter you. It's also easy to get overwhelmed, but just take it slow. Remember to bring cash! There's also a few food stalls when I went. There was a Mexican one, a wood fired pizza place, and a Filipino food truck. We only tried the food from Rita's (the Filipino truck) and the Mexican stall. We ordered the lamb tacos and hibiscus (jamaica) agua Fresca. Lamb taco was good, pretty moist and tons of meat, but also kinda pricy at $5. At Rita's, we got a bbq chicken skewer ($3.50), a dozen lumpia ($4), and a cheeseburger ($3). The winner for sure was the chicken skewer. Great value and super tasty. Not overly salty, fatty or sweet. It's nice how you can buy skewers individually. The lumpia here is made with ground turkey instead of the traditional pork, but it's still tasty. Cheeseburger is a hard pass. Next time I wanna try out the wood fired pizza place. It's $13 for a pie, or $7 for half. Price includes a choice of two toppings and includes a 4 cheese blend.

Yelp
the best farmers market in the city! the prices are incredibly affordable (especially compared to the ferry building or noe valley farmers market) and the produce is always fresh! gets a bit busy on saturdays after 9 am so go early especially if you don't want to spend 20-30 min finding parking

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a kiddo. So much variety of produce. I see different types of plums, basils, green beans, tomatoes, oranges and cilantro. There were maybe 2-3 flower vendors. Got some mint, green plums and flowers. Didn't take a lot of pics a lot to look at and people congested. Parking is available but you'll have to wait a few minutes to find lot parking get there early for more selection.

Yelp
What a gem! This is a real, authentic, buy-your-tomatoes-in-the-street farmers market. Maybe around 40ish stalls full of in-season fruits and veggies. If you're looking for the cheap produce, they have it. If you're looking for the organic, good stuff, they have it. Tons of different herbs including thai basil which is pretty hard to find. They also have flowers for sale (I saw 2 different stalls) in both bouquets and plant-in-the-ground style. Best of all, a few different stalls of food! Including tamales and pizza. Challah bread, aged cheddar cheese, fresh strawberries, zucchini, 4lbs of tomatoes, cilantro pesto, and bolani flatbread. We made out like thieves. Don't forget your cash! A small parking lot, but I would suggest street parking. Potentially difficult but I didn't have a problem.

Yelp
I'm pretty happy that we have this Farmer's Market in the neighborhood. Produce selection is great, and as other's have noted, I would recommend taking a lap around the stalls first, the stalls that are in the middle have better prices (generally). They have lots of specialty Asian vegetables and fruits too! Parking is a little hard to find, you might have to go around a couple times before a spot opens up, but the lot is quite large, and there's street parking around as well. On the other hand I would not recommend public transport. There's almost no bus lines, and it's quite a uphill trek if you want to head towards the Mission. I will say, that a lot of the stall owners don't have the best customer service, this isn't the ferry building, but if you're nice, they're generally nice too. Overall, I come here almost weekly to get ingredients for my morning smoothies, would recommend if you're in the area.

Yelp
The first, the biggest, the best. Come on a Saturday Morning and have your pick of fruits, vegetables, and everything from plants to pupusas! The prices are reasonable (although a lot of stuff is organic, ostensibly catering to SF's tastes), and the selection is excellent. Last time I was there I got like 2 pounds of dates for $3 a pound. Your other shoppers are anything from Noe Valley yuppies with strollers to Chinese women grabbing all different types of eggplant and greens. It is definitely a mob scene there, but don't feel like you'll be muscled out. An extra bonus are the food stands on the other side of the gallery. I'm partial to the pupusa stand, offering different fillings and (since I was here last) arepas as well. My only gripe (but one big enough to knock off a star) is that it's a nightmare to get to by public transportation. You're either walking on a dingy sidewalk through a highway interchange, or hiking up and down a giant hill to get to the 24-Divisadero. They should honestly move it to an outlying BART station if they want the space. It's annoying.

Yelp
Ive been going there for years. A large variety of produce for less than supermarket price. Also its great to support local farmers. I wish they had some Spanish produce plantains ect. Otherwise lots of free parking and low prices.

Yelp
It's best to be good and hungry when being here on a Saturday morning because the selection of hot and delicious food is wonderful. We started with some delicious Pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches, then experienced Egyptian cuisine for the first time, had some spicy Indian food and then wrapped up the eating extravaganza with some delicious Mexican "Huaraches" (not the shoes but a beefy tortilla, meat and mole dish). And then moving on to the produce and fruit stalls......it was a shopping paradise with the ability to taste from each one. Now all I need to do is figure out is how to get Saturday mornings off so I can do this every weekend.

Yelp
This is my ol' hood (damn, I miss living here). Bernal Heights, home to Cortland and one of the best damn farmers market around. This is OG folks. Where your mama and your mama's mama be shopping. Yeah, it's loud, it's crowded, and it's not pretty. Know your produce. You got every Tom, Lee, and Jesus claiming they are organic and the best. If you are aware, you will recognize the real farmers from the shadesters and walk away with some good stuff. Other than the typical produce, they have a vast array of ethnic products which is why I adore this market so. Where else can you get balut (duck egg for you non-Filipino's....holla), live chickens (we don't support this place due to the selling of Bugs...as in bunny), rambutan (my favorite fruit...evaaaaaar), fresh fish (yay for salmon belly), naan, hummus, pupusas (made right in front of you), and the abuela selling fresh tamales out of a garbage bag? Yes, I simply adore this place. And yes, parking is atrocious but how is that different from any other place in the city?!
