London’s Best Grab & Go Meals - London - The Infatuation

"This melt-in-your-mouth Nigerian barbecue spot in Brixton isn’t somewhere you’re going to spend a particularly long time. Save for a few counters to lean on, it’s predominantly takeaway-only. But once you find a bench, bus stop, or whatever else to dine from, this suya will live long in the memory. Alhaji’s yaji (a homemade spice mix of chilli, peanut, ginger, and garlic) will do the tango with your taste buds and the tenderly grilled meat, in particular the tozo, is second to none." - jake missing, rianne shlebak

The 12 Best Restaurants In Brixton - London - The Infatuation

"Ask anyone who knows about suya where to find the best in London, and their answer will be Alhaji. The little Brixton kiosk provides expertise in Hausa cuisine (from northern Nigeria) in a grab-and-go setup. Marinated beef, lamb, and chicken is given a blast of heat before a careful unwrapping process is followed by a healthy sprinkling of yaji. The tozo (from the hump of the cow) is our favourite, and though it’s not always as meltingly good as it once was, it’s still an excellent on-the-go lunch. There are jollof boxes and meat pies too." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna

Alhaji Suya Brixton - Review - Brixton - London - The Infatuation

"This location of London’s most reliably tender, northern Nigerian suya spot is a little takeaway-only kiosk that may well change your lunch or dinner plans around Brixton. Once upon a time Alhaji Suya’s meat skewers were grilled fresh but now, chunks of tozo are given a flash of heat before being wrapped up and served with sliced red onion and tomato. This makes for a less consistently melt-in-your-mouth experience, but it’s still a good one with tingly, peanut-scented yaji sprinkled over the meat. Stick to the tozo, beef, or lamb—the chicken is a little soft for our liking—and combine them with jollof rice and plantain for an excellent-value meal. If you need a 4pm snack, get a suya meat pie. And maybe take one for later too." - Jake Missing

Alhaji Suya Greenwich - Review - Greenwich - London - The Infatuation

"After a fire forced the Peckham site to temporarily close, Alhaji Suya relocated to a tiny, takeaway-only hatch on an industrial park in Greenwich—near the big IKEA. The Peckham site is now back in business (plus a site in Walworth), and the Greenwich one has stayed put—which is a great relief because it serves some of the best suya in London, if not the UK. Service is very functional and the whole cooking setup is hidden behind the pass. It’s much more like a ghost kitchen, with queues of delivery drivers waiting to pick up orders. Hausa cuisine (from northern Nigeria) is the speciality here, specifically that suya cooked on the barbecue and finished on an electric grill for efficiency—and to provide a crust. Everything is done well but the tozo suya is the real reason to visit. Fatty chunks of beef are deeply smoky with a fierce whack of spice, while the accompanying yaji is incredible. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Jonathan Hatchman

The food was decent but what surprised me was the price. Almost £15 for a rice box with a little meat and lots of rice is broad daylight robbery. I have had bigger portions for £10 in central London and got surprised the prices considering it’s Brixton street food. The rice was good and flavourful, the meat was a bit dry but had lots of flavour and points for the friendly service.

Ordered Jollof rice, lean beef and plantain. The jollof rice was moist and spicy but once it bounced on your tongue, there was an explosion of flavours so much so you can’t even tell what was used because it was that mouth watering. The lean beef was surprisingly tender and it kept on tasting better after each chew. Lastly, the plantain gave the meal that sweet touch with its indulgent centre that balanced out the spice from the jollof rice but made this meal A memorable combo. What made the meal really great were the elements of culture and service within. I say this because it feels as if it was home made food cooked with loved and served to you to eat with passion. For Nigerian food, this place is an absolute must. A major delight full of flavour, passion and authenticity.

Ordered the jollof, plaintain and chicken and it was simply horrible. Just pepper with no other flavor. 2nd August 2025. Delivery person simply dropped the package on the pavement outside the hotel and left. Didn’t even try to give it to the concierge.

I was given a free sample of the meat, all I can say is wow. I didn’t expect such bold flavours that complimented each other . It was a delight.
