"Despite the name, Amy’s Pastelillos in Fishtown isn’t entirely about the deep-fried meat pies—everything the Puerto Rican shop makes is pretty great. From the excellent sides like pickled yuca to the various bowls (go for the Vegano) and loaded sweet and spicy tostones nachos, it’s all going to make you feel like you’ve been doing this meal thing all wrong. Of course, all of the pastelillos are fantastic, but it’s the sweet and tender guava pork that has Philly lining up. "The Meal: Vegano Bowl, $15  You could leave Amy’s Pastelillos in Fishtown with several things stuffed in their paper containers for under $15. The doughy pouches here are five bucks, and they have a combination platter where you can get two with a side. Plus, tostones nachos with sweet pineapple is just $12. But it’s their Vegano Bowl, with sweet plantains, fluffy white rice, avocado, pickled onions, and tender red beans and pumpkins, that’s so good any carnivore would happily eat it daily. Plus, they give you such big portions that you’ll basically be paying $15 for a savory, sweet, and filling bowl that you’ll get two meals out of. " - candis mclean
