The 17 Best Restaurants in Wichita, Kansas | Eater

"Angelo’s is Wichita’s oldest and most beloved Italian restaurant, and may have invented a special type of cuisine best described as “Wichitalian” — salads topped with zesty dressing and house-made pickled eggplant; manicotti cooked in metal dishes until the cheese gets crispy on the edges; and thick-crust pizzas loaded with toppings like homemade Italian sausage, which saturates the crust with delightfully greasy flavor as it cooks. This local favorite, originally founded by Italian immigrants in 1960, closed in 2000; but Wichita loved it so much, citizens donated to a crowdfunding campaign that helped the founders’ son and granddaughter revive it in 2021." - Denise Neil

The Best Cheesesteaks in Philly

"At Angelo’s in South Philly, virtually any order will blow you away — pizza! hoagies! — but a cheesesteak at Angelo’s is a particularly beautiful thing. Whether you go with Cooper Sharp, provolone, or Whiz; with chicken instead of beef; or with a hoagie cheesesteak with all the requisite toppings, you can’t go wrong. Remember: Angelo’s only does cash and takeout." - Ernest Owens, Eater Staff

I've been coming to Angelo's for over 50 years. My uncle would send me all the way from Haysville to the hillside in Harry location to get pizzas and pick them up and they were worth it then and there certainly worth it now. They're always busy but you get great service the food comes out fresh hot just like you would expect it and the prices are very reasonable. If somebody comes from out of town to visit you and you want to impress them this is where you bring them cuz this is the gold standard. Tonight I had the eggplant Parmesan and all I could eat was half of it and the Italian salad is to die for

Food: I was in the mood for a good chicken parm. Unfortunately I didn't get one. The chicken on both dishes was over cooked and dry. Sides were ok, garlic bread was excellent. Service: Minimal. Our waitress came by 3 times; once to take our order, once to bring our order, and finally to bring our check. Her face lacked a friendly smile each time. I could have used a few extra napkins and a refill. Atmosphere: Too cold, best to bring a jacket. And the hard wood chairs started getting uncomfortable around the 20 minute mark. Conclusion: Stick to the speggheti and meatballs or pizza, take the chicken off the menu.

Well worth the wait to be seated and our server Shawn was a total hoot! She kept us laughing the whole time. We did wait quite awhile for our food but it was so worth every minute we waited for that delicious food. The building was super cold, that was only thing that dampered our early valentines day dinner. Brought back so many memories of back in the day. Had been years since I had eaten there!

Absolutely the worst dining experience I've ever had. We left the restaurant with our kids in tears after being verbally attacked—by both the staff and the owner. If you're interested in the full story, here are the details: Upon arrival, my husband and I were seated in a dark corner. I politely asked if we could move to a better-lit table, and they accommodated the request. Our waitress came over fairly quickly to take our drink orders, including a tea with lemon. It took about 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive, and when they did, the tea had no lemon. I asked—again politely—if lemon was available, and when she confirmed it was, I asked her to bring some when she had a moment. Shortly after that, without explanation, a male waiter took over our table. From there, the service went downhill. We waited much longer than expected for our food, even though we noticed several tables who arrived after us receiving their meals first. While the new waiter wasn’t outright rude at first, we did have to keep asking for refills, and our food took over 35 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, three out of four dishes had severely overcooked, dry, stringy chicken—so tough it was difficult to chew. When I brought this to the waiter’s attention, his response was simply, “So, would you like to-go boxes?” We packed up only some pasta and bread—none of the chicken. When I received the bill, I noticed only a small discount was applied. I asked to speak to a manager, and the waiter responded, “I already talked to the owner—she’s not going to tell you anything different.” After waiting about five minutes, the owner finally came out—not to resolve the issue, but to immediately accuse me of being rude to her staff. She then said, “You’re not going to stuff your face and walk out without paying,” along with other aggressive and completely inappropriate comments. It escalated further when the waiter called me a liar, claiming we had taken the chicken with us (we hadn’t). I even offered to bring the food back in from the car, where my husband and children had already gone, to show them. Instead of discussing the issue reasonably, the owner threatened to call the police if I didn’t pay the full bill and followed me outside to take a picture of my license plate—while continuing to argue with me as my children cried in the car. I returned to the restaurant with the food again and offered to pay for the portion we ate, but they still refused to work with me in any way. This was a shocking and deeply upsetting experience. I have never been treated so poorly in any customer service situation. The way the owner handled this situation—especially in front of my children—was completely unprofessional and hostile. I'm truly astonished that this business is still operating given the way they handle customer concerns.

The food here used to be much better. We ordered to go and our food still wasn't ready for an additional 20 minutes past when we were told it would be ready. Only for the pasta to have literally no flavor. Chicken was seasoned but so dry. Really, the only good part was the garlic bread. I don't recommend spending the money on this just for the nostalgia. It's just not worth it.

Service was really good. Loved the atmosphere. Food wasn't disappointing with exception of the suggestion of potatoes with the meatballs. Olive oil and Italian seasoning on steak fries wasn't a good combination in my opinion. Wish I would have stuck with the pasta. Garlic bread was really good

Like being in Italy 🇮🇹 Everything was phenomenal. This is a must stop restaurant if you are anywhere near Wichita. (250 miles would still be a good choice)
