The Best Bakeries in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"The San Fernando Valley’s stunning Artelice Patisserie creates some of the most beautiful and technically sound desserts in Los Angeles. With a full-time patisserie in Burbank and an outlet in Sawtelle Japantown, these grand sweets elevate any afternoon tea or evening gathering. While all the sweets are outstanding, including the tiramisu and tarte tatin, make sure to try the Italian Princess croissant filled with mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, Parmesan, and basil." - Rebecca Roland

Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week | Eater LA

"With locations in Burbank and West LA, I find Artelice Patisserie makes some of the best pastries in the Southland, offering a range of macarons, croissants, cakes, tarts, and eclairs alongside a variety of drinks including a surprisingly robust decaf espresso; on a recent breakfast visit I had the Persian princess croissant — rose and orange blossom dough stuffed with a pistachio filling — which was aromatic and floral, tasting and smelling sweet and light, with a filling reminiscent of frangipane that set it apart from most pistachio croissants I've tried." - Eater Staff

Artelice Patisserie Review - Sawtelle - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Between spots selling matcha soft serve, mango pudding, and cream puffs, there are more dessert options along West LA's Sawtelle Blvd. than grains of sand at the beach. But if we had to pick one, it would be Artelice Patisserie. This upscale bakeshop (with another location in Burbank) specializes in elaborate, glossy French pastries that look like fashion statements, from delicate caramel napoleons to mango eclairs and passion fruit croissants. Everything here tastes as good as it looks, but if you want something small for a post-meal nibble, their multiple-colored selection of macarons is a good bet." - Garrett Snyder

This place is an absolute gem! The pastries are beautifully crafted and taste even better than they look. Everything feels fresh, balanced, and made with real care. The staff is friendly and patient, always happy to explain the flavors. Whether you’re grabbing a quick treat or ordering for a special occasion, Artelice never disappoints. Highly recommend!

Google
My lord!! Idk some people are saying it’s not worth the price for the pretty pastries, but it’s not like you bought some cookies. They’re legit pretty and have not only a lot of visual effort, but the inner flavor as well. Not overwhelming, it’s a perfect balance. We got four. My favorite is probably the Saint Honore (Donut looking one), My dads is the Valentino, (Red one), and my moms is the Valentino as well. It was super good and worth it about $10 on average we spend roughly $40. Was it expensive for what we got? Meh not really if you think it’s like an ice cream shop and you go get ice cream almost everyday then yeah. But I don’t eat sweets/buy them on a daily. Worth the try if you are unsure. And yes the big Roche was exactly like the candy except better! It was a close competition between the Saint and Roche for me.

Google
Came here to buy cake for my son’s birthday about 3 pm and most the cakes are gone…didn’t know about this place until now and what a 🥇 super! Birthday or large cakes were gone so we picked up 4 individual pieces and that was a good idea because we get to sample different flavors!!the yuzu lemon tart was spot on .. love that sweet/sour taste and the Dubai chocolate was delicious.. as for chocolate… never could go wrong.. the popular mango mouse ‘s is ❤️

Google
We were visiting from Las Vegas and stopped into Artelice Patisserie to admire their gorgeous desserts without realizing we’d walked in right at closing time. The owner was so welcoming when he heard it was our first visit and kindly offered my son a macaron of his choice. I chose the mango éclair and the tiramisu after some great recommendations, and both were fantastic. The mango éclair was perfectly tangy and fresh, and the tiramisu did not disappoint. Wonderful service and truly delicious pastries!

Google
It's like eating a piece of art. The mango pastry is absolutely delicious and has chunks of mango in it. It has both a firm and creamy texture. The outer shell tastes like white chocolate, then there is a light cream layer followed by the real mango that's sweet and has a sour hint then the delicious moist sponge cake. Amazing!

Google
I love this place ✨ Every time I got new experience and new emotions with every new cake🤤 Balanced taste, excellent ingredients! Every pastry is truly like work of art 🎨 I get aesthetic and gastronomic pleasure😌 By the way, coffee is really good! Service is very kind and friendly ) My favorites are Saint Honore, Sophia, Pecan Royal. Great 😍 P.s. I'd love to have music playing (maybe beautiful French music) and the space filled with beautiful, authentic decor — like wall paintings, interior details, and so on 😊

Google
This patisserie is one of my go-to spots whenever I want something special. Their eclairs are out of this world--light, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness, especially vanilla eclair is my favorite. The pastries they create are true masterpieces, both visually stunning and incredibly delicious. Every visit feels like a little treat for the eyes and the taste buds. If you're looking for beautiful, high-quality pastries that taste just as amazing as they look, this is the place!

Google
Delectable fare, the variety is quite inviting, craft fully made. ✨✨ Cookies by pound, cakes, espresso machine and pastries. Art and his wife are social, passionate about the business. Enjoyed the long chat about their journey, history of bakery chefs in LA and travails of making perfect bakes. Pizza is apparently as good, added to the next visit list.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to go to get croissants. I love the variety in flavors and combinations. The croissants are buttery, flaky, and nicely laminated. In the box I got today is an almond croissant, matcha croissant, Greek princess croissant, rosemary & Kalamata olive croissant, & Spanish princess croissants. As savory croissants the Spanish princess and rosemary & Kalamata olive croissant are my favorites. The store is always kept clean and the staff are quick to help you. There are a few outside tables and chairs to eat at. Parking- parking spots in front of store front or street parking

Yelp
Firstly it's such an aesthetically pleasing looking bakery! Simple line to order. They have a decent amount of options mostly sweet with a few savoury options. Ham and cheese croissant- dry not worth it Matcha croissant- 100000% get this if you like matcha it's incredible Macaroons- standard nothing crazy good Bow tie- pretty good not overly sweet Hazelnut chocolate cookie- REALLY sweet if you like that Overall everything was good. Matcha croissant is the only thing I'd go back for. Luckily the line was short at opening time on Saturday. The service was OK. Guy grabbed our cookie then proceeded to forget to add it so I had to go back and then repay for it (we didn't get our receipt so trusted him that I didn't pay for it already). I wouldn't race back anytime soon but if I was in Burbank I'd grab a couple things I didn't try.

Yelp
Love everything about Artelice. Their ingredients top-notch, a piece of Paris in LA. I love their mini fresh pastries for my parties. Always a hit!
google avatar

Ashlyn R.

Yelp
Everything here was to die for! I ordered one exotic and it had a nice tropical flavor that wasn't too overwhelming. I also got the coffee and vanilla eclairs- they were both super light and delicious! The macarons here were great as well. I can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Is it Valentines Day? An anniversary? A gift for someone feeling down or just a thank you so much for being a friend...this place just delivers the right message for that special someone and in style. Their innovative pastries delight and amaze all while being so f$&king good!!! They are a gem of downtown Burbank and if you haven't been have them serve you up the reason we have taste buds as humans -- I love their service, their detail oriented art of pastry making and all in little cafe off San Fernando Blvd that leaves you thinking -- does downtown Burbank need this parking on the street? Can't we have cobblestones, a euro vibe, and all wear berets? lol enjoy ;-)

Yelp
Artelice Patisserie is masterful at making delicious desserts. So far I've tried two pastries, the saint honore and Valentino. Saint Honore is a ring of honey glazed bites filled with cream. I wasn't the biggest fan of this one but the staff member told me this was her favorite and the most popular pastry, so maybe I'm the odd one out. But personally I'd give this one a 4/5. Valentino is a spongey red orb with chocolate and raspberry flavors. This one was the better of the two in my opinion. I wish the exterior was crunchy but it was delicious nevertheless. 5/5 I'd definitely come back !

Yelp
Artelice Patisserie is located in the heart of downtown Burbank and I had the chance to check them out during their Winter Art Festival. The bakery is airy, modern with a sleek interior, showcasing some of the most beautiful French desserts that I have ever seen. We took note on what desserts we wanted to try but being that we already bought snacks from the festival, we can only buy food that didn't need to be eaten right away. The service is so friendly, even gifting the toddler in our family a macaron (which by the way, was so good.. Exterior of the cookie was slightly crisp, and the rest of the bite was nice and chewy, with full of flavor. I took home an apple pastry, a ham and cheese croissant and a chocolate croissant. They were good but the texture wasn't my favorite. It may be because I waited to for the next day for breakfast. The apple pastry wasn't as light and flaky as I would think it would be. Chocolate croissant didn't have enough chocolate as I would like for it to have. The ham and cheese was delicious after toasting it. I am not counting out. I am still very much interested in coming back and try the desserts they are known for (or what dishes that are often showcased on social media.) Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I've been coming here more often since I first brought my sister here for her birthday. The pastries are divine! The cappuccino's are delicious. The service is always spot on. We enjoy sitting outside on the little bistro tables and watching the crowds walk down San Fernando Rd. A great place to enjoy a truly delightful French experience.
google avatar

Richard O.

Yelp
While the pastry I bought was good, I didn't think it was worth the $10 price. The pavlova pastry looked beautiful and while I'm not an expert on French bakery items, I was expecting something much more substantial in terms of flavor.

Yelp
Was in the mood for a fancy dessert while in town and a friend recommended stopping by here. Located in a Japanese strip mall, everybody working here was nice and pretty much everything here looked great. Not only did they have adorable pastries for Halloween but they tasted awesome too. I opted for the pumpkin and the skull, pictured below, and did not regret it. Also snagged some croissants that were particularly delicious -- Instagram perfect looking to boot.
google avatar

Alana M.

Yelp
Beautiful patisserie in downtown Burbank. The classic croissant was large and nicely laminated. It was pretty filling too. I also snagged earl grey and sea salt caramel macarons. I'd definitely come back to try the more adventurous croissants. Beautiful presentation too.
google avatar

Nakia D.

Yelp
I love the macarons from here. They are not overly sweet and they taste exactly like the name of the macaron. Always fresh and light and delicious every bite. I haven't tried any other pastries from them, just macarons.
google avatar

Teeling L.

Yelp
We're around the area so decided to try out their croissants. So many options, sweet and savory, and many beautiful desserts. We only picked up the croissants this time and they were delicious. The atmosphere is just cozy and lovely with friendly staff and service was fast and efficient. We will definitely be back and try the other desserts next time :)
google avatar

Yelp
Stop by Artelice if you are hanging out at the Burbank mall! As a French expat, I am always looking for a taste of home away from home. Éclair au café (coffee eclair) is in my top 5 favorite French pastries and I believe the one they have here is pretty tasty (just a little harder consistency than I am used to). Friendly staff, inviting interior, and a few outdoor tables are available.
google avatar

Inga M.

Yelp
Amazing and tasty pastries. Beautiful and clean interior. The owner is incredible, very sweet and pleasant. We always enjoy coming here.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
If you haven't been here before, your missing out. The sweet smell of fresh baked pastries lingers when you walk in. And the array of beautiful sweet perfection all lined inside the glass case. Each and every piece are all so beautiful. The pain au chocolates is my favorite by far but you do need to get there early as they do sell out pretty fast. The selection and colorful piece of French macarons always brings the crowd in. Staff is always so grand sweet.
google avatar

Panther S.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I was walking by and I had to stop in and everything that they sell is like a work of art . If you're in this area you definitely have to check it out and give it a try , I highly recommend it and the food is truly delicious .

Yelp
I discovered Artelice Pâtisserie through KTLA and was delighted to visit. Their pastries were absolutely delicious, with a perfect balance of flavors. The experience was wonderful, though I always prefer enjoying my coffee in a proper cup rather than a paper one.
google avatar

Melissa D.

Yelp
The store is so bright and inviting inviting. The staff are so polite and welcoming. The food looked amazing. We ordered the matcha croissant, new York roll, Danish, Persian princess, rosemary and olive and leek and onion. They were all very nice. Greedy me wanted more filling in all all. With the desserts I ordered the Citron cheesecake, tiramisu, exotic and pistachio desserts. I loved the citron one the most

Yelp
A friend gave a gift card from this place and I absolutely love the Artelice Patisserie in Burbank! This place has such a minimalist yet classy vibe that makes it feel special the moment you walk in. Their pastries are out of this world--just the right amount of sweetness, beautifully decorated, and truly capture the essence of fine French bakeries. The ambiance reminds me of the cozy little restaurants in Paris, and it's such a treat to sit there and take it all in. The staff is super friendly and always happy to answer any questions, which makes the whole experience even better. If you're craving something delicious and want to feel like you've been transported to Paris for a moment, you have to check this place out. It's quickly become one of my favorite spots!
google avatar

Yelp
My daughter brought me to Artelice Patisserie to pick up sweets for my birthday. They were all so pretty -- I wanted them all! I chose the Saint Honore and Tiramisu. They were as delicious as they looked! The quality of the ingredients comes through in every bite. I absolutely loved the beautiful, meticulous presentations. Very courteous service. Our cakes were packaged impressively well in their lovely signature box. I will return soon to try more!
google avatar

Jeremy E.

Yelp
Love Artelice Patisserie! Everyone is always so friendly, it's always just the right temperature in there and the food is always exquisite... simply sublime. My go-to when I'm trying to hit that sugar craving hard and satisfy that spectrum of texture diversity need is the New York Roll. WOW O WOW!! Never had anything like it before in my un-French life and boy o boy does it go hard on all levels of deliciousness! I sound like those actors in those old Herbal Essence commercials with all the moaning when I embark on this gourmet journey...it's seriously that sensational. Roll up on it amigos! Never had anything I didn't like there so give it a look and enjoy!

Yelp
I purchased an assortment of pastries. Everything was divine. Coffee was delicious too.

Yelp
Saw this on their menu online - "Passion Fruit Pain Au Chocolat" - and I had to have it. Sadly, it was really, really dry - and barely any hint of passion fruit. I love a pain au chocolat, and theirs was unique with the chocolate dough, but it was just so earth-shatteringly-dry. :(
google avatar

Evelyn P.

Yelp
Amazing desserts and costumer service! They're delicious and decadent. Ordering ahead is best, so you don't have to stand in line. At the same time, as a visual person I appreciate being able to pick the desserts when I'm there.
google avatar

Yelp
Can't believe this amazing pastry bakery is in Burbank! Definitely a hidden Some of my top picks and the filling inside is amazing! It's just a bit messy due to the flakiness. PERSIAN PRINCESS Rose and orange blossom dough with pistachio filling ALMOND CROISSANT Classic croissant dough filled with 70% European Almond Paste MATCHA CROISSANT Matcha croissant dough filled with house made Matcha chocolate NEW YORK ROLL I believe the filling changes every week. This week it was lychee! Street parking outside or free at the parking structure a block away Friendly service from start to finish. Love their boxes, display and overall ambience of the entire place. There's a few tables outside to eat or on the entire street of S San Fernando

Yelp
Gorgeous cakes in store. We pre ordered the Valentino cake. It was beautiful and delicious. Great, friendly service. Parking in spots in front of the store.

Yelp
Artelice Patisserie was one of the first bucketlist items my boyfriend and I had together, since he knows of my love for fancy pretty pastries. We eventually made our way here and it did not exactly live up to our expectations but we were happy to enjoy the journey together. I was actually surprised by the imperfections I saw in their petit fours, those little cakes. There were bumps between layers and their glaze wasn't even on some of their mini cakes. I'm only saying this compared to other businesses that offer the same products. There is a higher expectation of technical excellence that comes in with the higher pay range. We shared a Tiramisu ($8.50) and a Pain Au Chocolate ($5.00) pastry. The tiramisu layers were uneven and the chocolate shell layer was separated from the mousse layer that was too thick in texture. Like it's nice but missing execution marks. I've had better elsewhere. I also didn't taste the coffee essence I like in my tiramisu. The pain au chocolate had good chocolate distribution in this croissant and it was decadent. Visually it looked stunning and flakey, but taste-wise, it was about average. They gave us a complimentary broken yuzu macaron to sample and the taste was great but the texture of the filling was overly sticky, leaving us feeling like it was an old product. Not taking any points against them as this is a giveaway item. We enjoyed our treats at the small outdoor patio area that had a few small tables. There were only a few tables, but they were not well maintained, as there were crumbles from prior patrons on multiple tables. Maybe a nice option for those who live in the area, but not worth it for me to make a trek to Burbank. I have better options of superior technical execution in OC at Shokuh Patisserie in Newport Beach and The Spoon in Stanton.

Yelp
I was absolutely impressed by this pastry store! I have seen a lot of good things about it and wanted to try it myself. The place is super cute. I love the concept. The pink and the flowers are really nice. The service is pretty quick as well. The girl who helped us was super helpful and very friendly so kudos to her! I had the Persian Princess croissant which has rose petals on the top and a pistachio orange blossom filling on the inside. It's not something I would choose normally but it seemed unique so I had to give it a try. I thought it was super good. Their croissants are light and actually not very greasy at all. I demolished it to be quite honest. The matcha was great, and my mom really enjoyed her latte, which says a lot because she's a coffee snob. She also enjoyed her pain au chocolat and said they did not overdo it with the chocolate. The outdoor seating is limited! It's a comfortable place, but I assume if it's crowded/busy, you might have trouble sitting there. I took the tiramisu home and had it later on and it's a really cute compact dessert. I took a picture of the inside in case anyone was wondering what exactly is going on under that shell! I thought it was pretty yummy. Is it an authentic tiramisu? Not really, but it's a cute inspired dessert for sure. ;)

Yelp
My favorite pastries in Burbank! Can't go wrong with anything you get here, but faves are the pistachio New York roll and Saint Honore.
google avatar

Yelp
Such beautiful pastries and macarons!! I usually don't like macarons, but these were exceptional. And truly stunning works of art
google avatar

Alyssa D.

Yelp
Artelice is a fantastic bakery that I would happily go out of my way for! It's located in a great area with many shops and restaurants nearby. What really makes Artelice stand out is the exceptional flavor and beauty built into their pastries. The pastries are *almost* too good to eat!! I enjoyed the Persian Princess and I was so pleasantly surprised to find that they were able to get the delicate rose flavor into every bite of the perfectly flaky croissant. The pistachio filling was nicely balanced and nutty without being too sweet or overpowering.
google avatar

Yelp
I was in Downtown Burbank with one of my girlfriends and we got so excited this place was open. Last time we were in the area they were closed. First off, the staff is so welcoming and friendly. Super sweet. They offered my daughter and macaron which was devoured by her. The person helping us was super friendly and patient. Everything we got was so tasty. Will definitely be back again!
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
Oh, yes! There is civilization in Los Angeles, and luckily, in Burbank, a few hops away from my lair by car. And, a shout out to my friend Ron, whose unfailing taste and deep bench of venues suggested this bakery. This one ticks every box: lots of inventory, perfect, flaky pastries, generous portions, reasonably priced for the quality, inventiveness, beauty, spotless and appetizing shoppe, with a balance of sweet and savory selections, great, long hours, and friendly smiling staff. Happiness! Now I have a couple of places to rely on when I care to get the very best (way back machine). I will keep quiet and let the pictures speak for themselves.
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first time going to this pastry shop and I must say the customer service was five stars multiplied by 10 the quality and the taste of the different pastries that we received which were excellent was five stars multiplied by 10.5 and the customer service by her name was either toni !!! She was phenomenal. If she is available as for her to help you. She never made us feel rushed while she was helping us make decisions on the different pastries were choosing she always kept a very organically pleasant smile on her face, and she never made us feel pressure to order more and more and more stuff even though we did order a lot of stuff a lot so I would highly recommend checking this place out, and you just can't go around the pastries. I can't say enough about that place out of five stars 100 stars across the board.!!!!

Yelp
Upscale, gourmet pastry shop with a good choice of delectable desserts. Tried an Exotic cake which is a "pistachio sponge, mango, banana and passion fruit insert with Caribbean cocktail pineapple, coconut, lemon and passion fruit mousse." It was great, and I will say this. The pastries are much larger than what it looks like in the website, and prices are quite reasonable. Service is also very patient and friendly; they will take the time to explain everything that you ask about and make recommendations.

Yelp
Artelice Patisserie in the San Fernando Valley is a gem worth discovering for any pastry enthusiast. From the moment you step in, the inviting decor sets the tone for a delightful experience. The service is exemplary, adding to the overall charm of the place. If you're looking for a post-dinner treat, Artelice Patisserie won't disappoint. Their cheesecake frair is exceptional, with a taste that's truly divine. Additionally, their macarons come in an array of flavors, including matcha, raspberry, and yuzu, each offering a burst of delightful taste in every bite. After my visit, I can confidently say that Artelice Patisserie ranks among the best pastry joints in the area. With its inviting ambiance, excellent service, and mouthwatering treats, it's a place I would gladly return to time and time again.

Yelp
These chocolate croissants are huge but tasty. I've also tried their coffee on a different occasion. Solid spot and they have some chairs outside as well. My Pilates instructor was so kind to get me one

Yelp
All the pastries are as delicious as they look. And they have great customer service everyone is always nice and helpful. Will no regret anything you get from here.

Yelp
The best pastry in town. Their vanilla eclair is a must try !! And their croissants second to none. top-notch service. Great spot to hang out with friends.

Yelp
(IG: @foodwithdeni) Devoured the most prettiest desserts from @artelicela !! We ordered the Roche and the Napoleon to satisfy our sweet tooth cravings! I would definitely come back to try more pastries because there were so many to choose from! FEATURING-- Roche (Hazelnut mousse, house made hazelnut praline mixed with soft caramel, hazelnut sponge covered with milk chocolate & almond glaze) Napoleon (Layers of puff pastry topped with pastry cream, soft caramel and topped with 24h infused Madagascar vanilla ganache)

Yelp
I saw this place being featured on TV. They are known for their croissants. I was finally able to come here and try it out Butter croissants- super light and beyond New York croissants - filled with lemon custard- not my taste. But the croissants was great Matcha croissants- I liked it but I wish it had something more to make it matcha All in all it's great. Prices are not bad - more than other bakeries but worth it. They have dessert which is decent but I would pass. Their macaroons are okay for me. I had better but it's their bakeries that's worth it. It's the best croissant I ever had and I will definitely make this my routine place now
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful pastries and location. Items are pricey but a good enough size for light appetites to share. The flavors are nice, but on par with similar high-end pastries offered in LA, so don't expect something mind blowing.
google avatar

Yonnie C.

Yelp
We came here today to get some dessert while we were in the area. So much variety and everything we ordered was tasty and decadent! Matcha croissant - great if you like matcha! New York roll - yes!! Cookies and cream Macaron - yum! Roche - sweet and decadent Napoleon - delicious Exotic - yum! Peach seasonal - so good and creamy Coffee with ice - ok! Sat outside at their tables in scorching heat. Staff are friendly.

Yelp
I have frequently seen this place on the news, and every single attempted trip to try it either there is no parking or everything is sold out. Apparently this place is home to some of the best crossisants in LA. Everything you've heard is true. Everything I ordered was fantastic. I think I ordered 4 different crossisants on my trip. Every one was delicious. Little pro tip. Don't bother street parking. Try the structure or one of the side streets. Bring plenty of money too.

Yelp
Mum was raving about this place that she read online was supposed to have the best croissants in Los Angeles. I was deciding between two locations and picked the one in the Valley because I am first and foremost a Valley boy. Parking is a bit of a nightmare so I recommend you find a nearby parking lot and just walk over the bakery. The service is fantastic, you feel like a high earner LOL. I always pickup the macarons and they have the most interesting flavors. I am partial to the yuzu. The croissants are also very good, however because I always go in the afternoon, they aren't as fresh and there aren't as many options to choose from. Nonetheless, I have always been pleased by my choices. The decor is classy, chic, like a modern patisserie. This place was also the first time I had a cannele and I immediately fell in LOVE. I would now say that I love a good alcoholic sweet treat.

Yelp
We got pan au chocolate. An apple croissant, raspberry macaron and coffee eclair. The coffee eclair was delicious with very pronounced coffee flavor and delicious pastry . The macaron had great raspberry flavor but the filling was unevenly distributed and most of it was to once side but was still delicious (I know - nit picky - I blame baking competition shows ) The chocolate croissants were enjoyed the next day so they most a tiny bit in texture but was still delicious with good quality chocolate There was no line because I went at an off time. Definitely want to go again

Yelp
This bakery has some of the best croissants in LA! The croissants are light and flaky, and I especially love the chocolate croissant. The Napoleon is incredible...also light and flaky, while the 100% Chocolate Cake is rich and decadent.
