"Bars and food trucks are a tried-and-true Austin combination. The best downtown iteration of this can be found near Red River with mezcal bar Las Perlas and taco truck Asador. Taco takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury

"When you’re drunk at a bar downtown, all tacos are good tacos. And for that reason, we had to make a follow-up visit to Asador after we woke up the next morning reminiscing on dreams of crispy, griddled brisket tacos. There are three locations downtown—Buford’s, Las Perlas, and on Rainey—so the tacos here clearly cater to a post-bar clientele. But we can confirm after an evening of nothing but Topo Chicos that they live up to our memories. They’re far better than they need to be, and for that we’re extremely grateful. What to get: Brisket taco; Grilled chicken taco " - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

"After the taco truck’s opening in 2018, it quickly grew to a total of three locations throughout downtown Austin — and for a good reason. The meats are juicy (the brisket with smoked chile morita and black sesame is a favorite) and the vegetables are delightful (the cauliflower is wonderful). Of the three locations attached to bars, the original truck parked in the back of East Seventh Street mezcal bar Las Perlas makes for a good combination. Hours vary but typically include lunch and dinner services. Takeout orders can be placed online or in person; all locations offer indoor and outdoor seating." - Nadia Chaudhury

Was looking for a late evening eat and Asador was close and well reviewed. I ordered a brisket and a carnitas, as well as a quesadilla. I found the meat was overly charred, and personally found the tacos to be extremely heavy without any of the typical toppings to cut through denseness. I felt kinda sick after eating. Unfortunately the most expensive and my least favourite tacos in Austin.

I was visiting Austin, and a bartender a few blocks away recommended this spot to me. It’s located at the back of three bars that are kind of connected. The chips were fantastic! I wasn’t a huge fan of the guacamole, but the queso and salsa were excellent (though the queso might be a bit spicy for some). The tacos were great—I tried everything except the Pork Carnitas. Overall, I had a great time here!

The quesadilla was small but goodness gracious it was so good I didn’t even care about the size. Also had chips and salsa and it was so good. Super cute atmosphere and location. Definitely not the cheapest taco joint but if you’re out late/bar hopping/on vacation (like me) who cares haha

Ate here because it was close to cheer up Charlie's but the prices are insane and then the cashier told me the 20% tip is non negotiable. I would have tipped him that anyways as a service industry person but to be told itd be $36 for a chips and queso and a quesadilla is CRAZY. Not worth it, eat before cheer up.

The chicken tacos were flavorful and delicious. The brisket was also good, but the chicken is the stuff of dreams. The tortillas was fresh, and tortilla chips were super crispy

Cauliflower tacos? I did have my doubts! BUT…they were actually the MOST delicious veggie tacos I’ve ever had. And the tequila bar is too lovely as well, showing old westerns on the silent (bliss) TV. So glad I decided to come in. Thanks for a very happy hour. X

Such a great somewhat hidden gem. The tortillas are amazing. Guac is a must. Chicken tacos and carnitas tacos are so good

Best tacos on East Sixth street. The tacos are HUGE and there’s ~6oz of meat in each one. Perfect for a stop before or after comedy at the Mothership.
