ASW Whiskey Exchange - Review - West End - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"ASW Whiskey Exchange is an Atlanta-based distillery with a full-service tasting room and bar on the Westside Trail at Lee + White. Stop by with your group for whiskey flights, a strong mango-piña colada, or cherry boozy slushies made with their spirits. Live music performances and a laid-back atmosphere make this place perfect for a low-key day date. Chill at a whiskey barrel bistro table, the bar, or take your drink outside to the long patio for some people-watching." - Jacinta Howard

ASW Whiskey Distillery Is Opening at Battery Atlanta Near Braves Truist Park, Cobb County - Eater Atlanta

"Chasteen and Thompson opened ASW Whiskey Exchange last year at the Lee and White complex off of the Westside Beltline in West End. That location functions mainly as an unconditioned rickhouse (whiskey storage, aging warehouse.) Chasteen told Eater Atlanta in 2018, the West End facility affords them flexibility with aging and finishing whiskeys. For instance, some barrels age similarly to those found in Scotland (not exposed to extreme temperature swings,) while others age like barrels found at Tennessee and Kentucky distilleries. In addition to barrel storage, ASW-West End acts as a second blending and bottling facility and includes a tasting room with cocktails." - Beth McKibben

ASW Distillery Begins Permitting Construction at West End Outpost - Eater Atlanta

"Atlanta whiskey-maker ASW Distillery is finally moving forward with permitting and construction bids on a second outpost at the Lee & White complex in West End. The 12,000-square-foot barrel aging and storage facility—which includes a Beltline-facing tasting room—has been tied up in permitting since owners Jim Chasteen and Charlie Thompson signed the lease last year." - Beth McKibben

Google
Great whiskey, great music, great cocktails and mocktails! I can’t say enough about this place. The staff is super-friendly, and shoutout to the manager, Israel, for creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere! Sunday jazz jams are not to be missed!

Google
Quality liquors and delicious cocktails. Large selections of cocktails. Beautiful space and attentive bartenders. The whole area is super cool and walks me to many places for food & drink. We will definitely be back!

Google
Nice venue. It has a great vibe and I like the location. We really appreciated the Giveback night! Acoustics are a bit challenging, though, if people are trying to speak to the attendees. But I do understand that it's due to the building design.

Google
This was my first time at ASW. It was cool. Not too crowded or loud and lots available seating. I tried a flight of their Bourbons and only really liked one. Service was good not great. Overall, I would go back again

Such an amazing space and a great vibe. Kaydee absolutely killed it with her service and recommendations on drinks. Definitely will be coming back frequently.

Google
Had such a good time at ASW! In visiting for the weekend and am a huge whiskey/bourbon fan! Kaydee was such a great help in recommending selections for a flight and letting us know about all the events coming up! She really helped connect us to the area and make us want to come back! My favorites for the night were the Fiddler Heartwood and the Duality: both made it on to my personal top tier list I definitely recommend! Thanks so much to Kaydee and crew for making our late night super enjoyable!!

Did the sushi making class with chef Nikki and it was amazing. It was a blast! Fun times for a date night or just a night out on the town.

Took out my wife on a date to eat drink, be merry, and to have some fun…. Boy oh boy- I was got lucky tonight. ASW Whiskey Exchange was one of the places visited tonight… The Whiskey Exchange provides a very laid back approach that can be very soothing, relaxing, and enjoyable. We were able to laugh, speak to each other without screaming at each other. The bartenders were informative and knowledgeable about their product. Had the frozen whiskey my had whiskey on the rocks! We were able to chill at the spot watch the NBA game, and enjoyed my time with the wife. There was plenty of BUZZ in the place. mixed crowd and place outside for games for the children and adults. Eat, Work, Play Experience

Yelp
The place is just a wide open space so I guess there's plenty of room for large parties. There was a live band playing that did not have the effect I think they wanted; it was so loud that it was impossible to hear each other so we sat outside. I definitely caught some attitude from the bartender when I asked her to surprise me with the composition of my whiskey flight.

Yelp
Great (and spacious) spot with knowledgeable and nice staff and some cool sips to try. Generous flight pours (I'd recommend any of the char selections) and great mixed drinks. Definitely worth ducking into!

Yelp
My family had an excellent experience at the ASW Whiskey Exchange! We happened to schedule our tour on the same day that Jim, one of the founders, gave the tour. He shared a wealth of knowledge and some great bourbon. We enjoyed our time there and the great music and drinks at the bar!

Yelp
We really enjoy ASW. The ambiance is good, spacious, comfortable. We have been a couple times and staff is always friendly and willing to offer suggestions. I like their whiskey quite a bit. If I had a criticism, it would be the depth of their cocktail menu. They really only offer 5-6 choices at any given time, and that includes theirs non-whiskey offerings. Now, what they make, they make really well. This West End location has the benefit of food and other drink options all right there as well. We have not tried any of their food yet as we usually wind up eating at The Boxcar first! Definitely a nice spot to chill with friends and have some drinks.

Yelp
Did a tour/tasting for my boyfriend's birthday and had a great time! We stayed after for a flight and drink, would recommend.

Yelp
ASW has multiple locations, and they offer different cocktail menus at each one, which is really cool! They produce different liquors: whiskey, vodka, gin, and bourbon This location is in the West End on the Beltline, next to Monday Night Brewing and Wild Heaven. They share a huge parking lot, so parking is never a concern! It's really nice and open inside. They have huge windows that let in a lot of light, and they also open them on nice days. They have rotating frozen cocktails that I usually go for at the Battery location, but this time, I decided to try their lavender cocktail. So yum! My husband ordered the old fashioned and enjoyed it.

Yelp
A vibe. Passed the vibe check! We tried the frozen drinks. One was a mule and the other was a rum and coke. Delicious. They also did not hold back on the alcohol lol. They have comfortable couches, seats, tables and lounge areas. They provided games like chess, checkers, cards, scrabble etc. love this area for food drinks and a great time.

Yelp
Beautiful and delicious cocktails made with high-quality whiskey. I love ASW whiskey. I got the Figgy Smalls. The dried fig was a nice touch! Right on the Beltline, walkable to breweries. Plenty of seating inside, with some outdoor seating. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I popped in for a whiskey slushie during the GASATL car meetup (last Sunday of the month from 1-4). The ASW exchange bartender was peppy and informative; she warned that the slushie was about 3 pours of whiskey. The Slushie de Passion was delicious and potent! I thought it was going to melt insanely fast in today's heat but it maintained that partial frozen state until I finished. The establishment looks like it'd be a great place to hangout and meet friends but I didn't was to linger with my two kids in tow. The high ceilings and large garage doors allow for great airflow even when it's hot pushed. There is so much free parking, which isn't common in Atlanta. I'm looking forward to another slushie next month.

Yelp
July 26, 2020 Ordered two Old Fashioned drinks and they were good, albeit on the sweet side. Also purchased a bottle of their fine Fiddler whiskey, which was a 2018 Gold Medal winner in the San Francisco World Sprits Competition, to share on an upcoming family reunion. The copper distillers are gorgeous works of machinery. And the story of AWS' beginning is also intriguing (note the link the email for the full story did not work): "Our Story: The Way Back As far as we know, the story of ASW Distillery begins in a number of places: Ireland. France. England. Ireland In the 1700s, an Irish native we'll call Searlas Tompson tasted uisge beathe for the first time, a batch smuggled by the light of the moon to evade King George I's whiskey tax collectors. Whether it was the taste or the danger or both, Searlas could not shake whiskey from his mind or his palate (part of this may have been its 130 proof). The liquid's warmth powered him through the damp winter and slowed time during the summer, brightening each season in its own way. As rents climbed on the Isle of Eire, Searlas and his family sought out the fertile expanses of Pennsylvania, a region that soon became famous for its rye whiskey. Of all the gifts Searlas' children inherited, perhaps his taste for whiskey was the most appreciated." When I arrived it was 8 minutes to closing on a Sunday evening. I had very little time to get to know the feel of the place but I have a feeling I'll be back.

Yelp
Tour was short and sweet. Love the host. Great father day gift!. Great ambiance to chill.

Blake B.

Yelp
Did a tour with some guy. Knew ZERO about whiskey. Waste of money on the tour. I feel like maybe he was on something. He did say after the tour to one of his regulars that his son was in town and the smoked weed the night prior. Maybe it was something more than weed. Whiskey was ok for being aged only 2-4 years old. ASW really needs to find someone else to do these tours.

Yelp
Decided to come here for a Sunday Funday double date before the pandemic hit. I've drove past here numerous times and finally got the chance to stop by. It's a couple of businesses in this area and it's all outside or have outdoor access via a patio of some sort. First, parking is plentiful as it's a big parking lot got for use of the multiple businesses there. The entrances are a short walk since parking are in the back side of the buildings. This space has a accessible entrance via a ramp and steps that you enter through the patio; which they had the open because of excellent weather. Now for the good stuff! They have PLENTY of different whiskeys to choose from and the whisky concoctions was delightful! You pay a certain amount to obtain some wooden chips this redeeming those chips for drinks. They also have the option to purchase some delicious snacks as well. If you have a larger appetite, no worries; they are plenty of eateries nearby. Can't wait for outside to open back up to visit again!

Yelp
Having a Me Day. I stroll over to ASW Exchange ..They had me a Bourbon Slushies. (3 tokens-$12)So good. Previn (not sure if that spelled correctly) was really nice. I actually had a token left from ASW on Armour Dr. That one token got me a neat pour. The inside has plenty of seating.I sat and enjoyed my company. As i sat there i said I will venture to The brewery behind it. Im so glad these businesses have opened. So close to home. If you are in the westend area check it out

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this place for the longest. It's right behind Boxcar up the ramp. Very spacious open concept you can sit inside or at a bar table outside. I came obviously to try the Whiskey but learned that they also distill their own Vodka and Gin. So I tried the drink special which featured their Vodka and it was the best vodka I've tasted. It was reasonably priced and the one drink had a lasting effect for a few hours. The vodka was so smooth! I will definitely be back to try a few other drinks and maybe actually try the whiskey lol

Yelp
Stopped in here on a not-so-busy Sunday with a date. The large tasting room has black walls with a chalkboard denoting the barrels and their ages. The bartender was really knowledge about the approximately 13 different bottles they had to choose from . We got a flight of 5, 1oz pours and split it. None of them were bad, some of them were great. One of the managers stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying ourselves and we spoke about flavor profiles for a while. He poured us an additional sample of something he thought we may have missed from our flight. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be buying their product in the future.

Yelp
I'm not a big Whiskey drinker, but the friends I was with are, so we stopped by! We had soooo much fun at the West End this weekend while we were visiting Atlanta, from Columbus OH. We were helped by the beautiful Anya, who definitely knew what she was talking about and was very helpful in ordering what "our" type of whiskey was. The whiskey itself was delicious. But Anya is what made the experience. Whiskey 3/5 Anya 5/5 Venue 4/5 If I liked whiskey more, i'd say more...but all I have is how great the customer experience was with our bartender. She is incredible.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to grab craft cocktails and pours. This is especially true if you love Bourdon. ASW is always known for making a cool vibe, experience, and cocktail tasting melding into an outstanding time. With the area also being a beacon for people gathering, this place is always somewhere that I could spend an afternoon and/or evening.
google avatar

Yelp
What could be much more exciting than being in a place that has nothing but bourbons and whiskeys. ASW is the place to be if that is your thing. The menu options are endless and the great flavors of a good old old fashion are impeccable. I definitely recommend this place located West End there is great parking available and the staff are very warm and hospitable.

Yelp
Been hearing about this place for the lonngesst time, and every time I've been in the area it has always been closed. Thankfully, yesterday i was supposed to be at Wild Haven for an event, so immediately went up to try the boozie shakes. Ordered both the Passion Fruit, and Mule, both were delicious, and pack a big punch, so take it easy! Worked out great as it was sunny, and beautiful weather. I'll be back next month, so looking to try the Bourbons!!

Yelp
I had wonderful time exploring this gem in the West End area of the Beltline. I am not an avid whiskey drinker but my fiancé is. What makes the ASW Whiskey Exchange so great is that they offer options for everyone from the whiskey beginner to the connoisseur. My sister, myself and fiancé all are at different ranges on the spectrum and all were able to enjoy learning about the whiskey used in our drinks of choice. The bartenders were extremely friendly and knowledgeable of the whiskey. The Distillery has various styles seating areas for you the enjoy your drinks. Dogs are also welcome. There is also a gift shop that offers great whiskey products to gifts for your dog. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
If you want a place to kick back and enjoy a nice cocktail or a fine whiskey, here's your spot! Open set up with scrabble wall, couches, and standing tables. I loved the way they partnered with local craftsmen as well. I went on a Sunday and ordered a spritzer, but want to go back for a date night and some heavier drinks!

Samantha W.

Yelp
Babe and I visited for a taste and tour. Time we'll spent. Bourbon (Fiddler) was great, mix drinks are available for purchase as well as light snacks. Such a nice space for a date. You also buy the bourbon or vodka made. Awesome time.

Yelp
ASW is a somewhat new addition to the scene in West End and boy is it a welcome addition. I like to make overnight trips to ATL to hang out with the guys or have a date night with my wife and ASW will be on the list for both whenever Im in ATL. We got a tour of the barrel room by the owner that was pretty informative and fun. We got to taste several of the different whiskeys and thats probably what I will do again the next time Im here. Its nice to be able to compare them and see what other people in my group think about the differences in them. Bottom line, if you are looking to try some different whiskeys, ASW is the place! I had a great time at ASW and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
We just had a private event at this location. It was amazing!!!! The staff was incredibly helpful, The drinks were amazing! Everyone had a great time. Thank you Lindsey for all your hard work.

Yelp
I'm not a whiskey connoisseur, but after being married to a Whiskey/Bourbon enthusiast, I was excited to try this local distillery. I loved how the staff were knowledgeable and willing to walk us first time guests through their distillation process, and talk about the various styles that they make. The place has a really nice vibe for someone who may have their dog with them, or someone whose on a date. It's versatile and comfortable without being too uptight or casual. Because I was a first time visitor, my cousin and I opted to try flights and split a whiskey slushie! I had a 1 oz pour of their Fiddler, Resurgens(a Rye Whiskey), and Druid Hill, while my cousin had their Fiddler Unison(a special batch),Duality, and Optic Promise. You could definitely taste the notes in their Rye Whiskey. I ended up leaving with a mini pack of their top sellers to bring home to my husband's Whiskey collection. I told him we would definitely have to add to our list of places when we go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I love the atmosphere here with the huge windows, matte black walls, and swanky barrel room. The classy vibe comes to a screeching halt a bit however when you're handed your drink with a striped plastic straw in it. No matter how many times I request no straw, somehow it always ends up served to me. Once, the server apologized and then plucked it out of my drink and into the trash. Womp womp. I don't like drinking out of trash and I wish they'd switch to paper straws that would match the aesthetic a bit more. The drinks are great, location unbeatable, and I'll keep coming back. Hope they improve this one aspect to become a five star hang out!
google avatar

McKeith C.

Yelp
I wasn't even a whiskey connoisseur until I visited this place. You walk in and immediately smell the again bourbon is barrels. It's amazing! The oversized games you can play like Jenga and Scrabble, not to mention Pucket (google it). The staff takes time to explain and make sure you select the neat pout or cocktail that you'll enjoy. Matt is awesome and so are the bourbon slushees: just in time for spring and summer. This is a cashless establishment so do keep that in mind unless you just keep some bills for tipping.

Yelp
So, I've been trying to find a distillery close to home and low key and this definitely hits the spot!! It's super cute spot that's truly a hidden gem to the Historic West End area if you are not familiar. No shortage of parking in this place. Inside is huge and extremely rooming, no feeling of being cramped on one another. The music selection was phenomenal, the perfect Sunday playlist if I don't say so myself. The ladies were very knowledgeable about the menu and helped me pick my new favorite whiskey. I started with the Duality Double Malt Whiskey... superb and a wise choice to start off with smooth but straight to the point, like a great pick up line. I ended with the my favorite cocktail... The Old Fashion. Might I add this was THE BEST Old Fashion I've EVER had. The perfect amount of whiskey and bitters with a touch of this orange juice that coated the mouth in such perfection I could go on and on about it. Needless to say, for a chill Sunday evening, it's the best place to go to and hang with friends, bring bae, or kick it solo.
google avatar

Kelley J.

Yelp
Bartender was very nice and helpful with whiskey selections. I recommend trying the whiskey slushy, though I wouldn't make a night of them. All in all, good pours and great service.

Yelp
Love this place, if you haven't been you have to give the old fashion a try. Also if your feeling crazy give that ole Tire Fire a go..... be ware it's a boozy!

Yelp
Ii really love the concept and will try it one more time; however, here's the story. I purchased tickets for my husband and myself for Father's Day treats. We traveled with the dogs since the event was Pups, Pops, & Bourbon I dressed my tiny pup in a Fushia pink tutu so, she could enter into the costume contest as stated in the event flier. We stayed until the end and never heard anyone from the staff or owners mention when or where the contest was about to happen. I was very disappointed. Meanwhile, I attend many, many Dog events in Midtown and Buckhead and they definitely treat everything like a beauty contest and I love it! At ASW they just gave the prize to a friend because there were only three dogs that had on an outfit ( one with angel wings, one with a Tutu and mine with the Glitter, full body Tutu! After asking staff what happened to the contest, if there was one, Staff stayed they did not know and they will give us Tokens to compensate! The contest was a bottle of their Bourbon. Staff returned with 7 Tokens and Tokens from King of Pops! My husband was disappointed too, to the fact it was a very blatant cover up! I will try ASW again without my dogs. Maybe they need assistance in setting up dog events!!!! I'm available. Oh, Happy Birthday, Barkley
